    Driver update corrupted laptop

I installed Driver Utility and it was installing 2 new drivers and a littler earlier there was a Windows update popup and it had to restart so I hit postpone for 4 hours

and so I left it to finish installing the 2 drivers and I checked on it 30 min later and it started restarting and then it showed the specs for the laptop and then it gets to a menu (all black background) and the options are

    Launch Startup Repair
    which finds no problems

    or

    Start Windows Normally
which just shows the specs and ends up on this screen

I tried doing a System Restore and it didn't even do anything from that
and I ran a diagnostics and I also got nothing

so does anyone know how to fix this?

    this is Windows 7 Ultimate

Safe mode. Use device manager to uninstall offending driver(s).

Stay away from those update utilities in the future.

If you're a little more specific, we could probably help you better.

What's the reason why you are unable to get to safe mode? Does it hang? Does it crash? What happens?

When the laptop goes though the startup screen and after that screen start hitting F8 key. That will get you to the safemode screen.

    The screens have black background

for a split second there is a blue screen right after the Windows 7 Logo comes up then it goes back to black

    1st Screen=

    BIOS 1.310 (1FETC1WW)

CPU=Intel(R) Mobile Pentium(R) III Processor with Speedstep(TM) Technology

    640kb System RAM Passed
    256kb cached SRAM Passed
    System BIOS Shadowed
    Video BIOS Shadowed
    0515712 kb extended RAM passed
    Mouse Initialized
    Fixed Disc 0 : Hitachi_DK23DA-30
    ATAPI CD-ROM : MAT****ADVD-ROM SR-8175

    2nd Screen=

Initializing Intel(R) Boot Agent Version 4.0.22
    PXE 2.1 Build 083 (WfM), RPL V2.73

    3rd Screen=

    Windows Error Recovery

Windows Failed to Start. A Recent Hardware or Software change might be the cause.

If Windows Files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interupted during startup, choose start Windows Normally.
(Use the Arrow Keys to highlight your choice)

    Launch Startup Repair (Recommended)
    Start Windows Normally

    _______________________________________________________
When I do Start Windows Normally then it just goes through the blue screen then the 2 black screen and back to this

when I do Startup Repair then this is what happens
    ________________________________________________________
    4th Screen=

    Windows is Loading Files
    |___(This is a Loading Bar)_________|

    5th Screen=

Then startup repair startsand eventually a pop up comes up and says

Startup Repair cannot repair the computer automatically.
Sending More Info can help Microsoft create solutions.

    ->
Send information about the problems (recommended)
    -> Don't Send

I can view a diagnostic report and it is a long list of what it did and then it says what it thinks the cause is and it can't find a problem

I also have 2 buttons to push, finish and cancel
finish shuts down the laptop and cancel restarts

another option is view advance options for startup recovery

then that takes me to another screen

    6th Screen=

It takes me to a small box where I can put in the username and password of the admin

so when I do I get a list of 5 items-

Startup Repair (which does the same thing before)

System Restore (I get 2 times to choose to restore from and nothing happens in either)

System Image Recovery (I don't have any of the images to recover from)

Windows Memory Diagnostics (which is pointless and does nothing and just ends up restarting the laptop back to the first screens)

Command Prompt (just opens the command prompt)

    _______________________________________________

    then there is nothing else

this is all the screen I can see so does anyone know how to fix this?

(also I tried hitting F8 and that did nothing)

When you are at the end of "1st screen", entering the "2nd screen", start hitting F8 repeatedly. That opens a startup screen where you can choose the safe mode. Then do as my fellow Seven Guru, distinguished geek Torrentg told you a couple of posts earlier.

When I kept hitting F8 it took me to a new screen

    Advanced Boot Options

    Repair Your Computer

    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt

    Enable Boot Logging
    Enable Low-Resolution Video (640x480)
    Last Known Good Configuration (Advanced)
    Directory Services Restore Mode
    Debugging Mode
Disable Automatic Restart on System Failure
    Disable Driver signature enforcement

    Start Windows Normally
    ___________________________________________
1st I tried Safe Mode which showed what it was loading and ended up going back to the 1st screen

then I tried Last Known Good Configuration (Advanced) and I also got back to the 1st Screen

    so now what?

I don't know if this will work with win7 but do have win7 disk. If you do you can try reinstall the OS by doing and upgrade. The other day I installed a solid state drive and it gave me that option. I have other drives with win7 and vista on those drives. :)
