Windows won't allow updated graphics driver to install.

    Hi,
I am trying to update the graphics drivers on my son's Medion Akoya E7214. Currently it is using Intel HD graphics core i3 igdumdx32.dll,igd10umd32.dll version 8.15.10.2141. I have been in contact with Medion and they first suggested running Intel driver update utility which I did, but Intel utilility advises a customised driver has been installed and to contact Medion. Medion advise the generic driver is fine and pointed me to the latest intel diver to download. I did so but windows will not install saying the best driver for my device is already installed (the driver I am trying to install is C:\drivers\Intel\win32_152822. I tried the work around suggested by Intel by downloading the zip file and extracting and installing via device manager - same result. I also tried downloading an older driver Medion pointed me to on their Medion download website. Again windows will not install saying the best driver for your device is already installed. I am hoping to update the Intel driver as I would like to try to intall Windows SP1 via updates and I cannot with the current driver. I have tried downloading SP1 via Windows downloads site but failed miserably despite trying every tip on the site and forum I can find. Any help gratefully accepted. Thank you.

    Hi Claudicat2001 welcome to SevenForums.

Unfortunately I'm having difficulties on finding the right drivers for your laptop model on Medion's website but I found an alternative.

Is this what you're looking for?

Thank you for such a prompt response. Medion did have me download an old driver (but newer than current one) but again windows wouldn't install it saying "The best driver software device is already installed" . The Driverscape website looks like an Intel driver download for my son's machine but is infact a driver toolkit scanner. They won't let me install anything without paying first and the Intel graphics driver it offers appears to be as old or older than this one! However, I am very grateful for the time you have taken trying to help me.

Thank you, that is the correct driver as per the Medion rep. He also said the latest driver on the Intel site was correct for this make/model laptop and graphics card. I have downloaded both and tried various ways to install. They both download fine but windows will not let me install either of them. The Medion customer service rep is adament it is the correct driver and that the newest driver on the intel site is also the correct one for this machine but windows 7 begs to differ! I have read somewhere that you can uninstall the current driver and try to installing the new one but I am nervous to do so unless it really is the best way. The laptop belongs to my 8yr old son - he has had it since he was 4 and loves it to bits! I don't understand why Medion and Intel say it is the correct driver but windows says no. Thank you for all your help.

There will be no harm in uninstalling the graphics driver. Go ahead and uninstall it (Don't worry about the resolution going lower and having Standard VGA Adapter as your graphics card because that is normal) Then proceed installing the driver again.

Thank you. I did uninstall the driver. I don't mind telling you my heart was in my mouth when I couldn't find intel graphics on device manager and the updates wouldn't work. However I went into the Bios and enabled Intel and rebooted. This not only enabled the Intel hd graphics but installed the "latest and greatest" driver that was listed on the Intel site. Now I just to have to get SP1 to install! Thank you once again for taking the time to help me out.
