The WIndows Scanning software, available by right clicking on the All-in-one in Printers and Devices, is a perfectly sufficient utility for almost any all-in-one and doesn't bloat the machine with a heavy software app that isn't needed for basic scanning.
I for one prefer to have choices and not be forced to use some other app. I'm glad I got this working. The Dell AIO plus IrfanView works seemlessly.

    Windows 7 -32/64 bit dell 922

You might recall in an earlier post the following:

The Dell 922 driver works fine on two of our system. There are two downloads available from the Dell site. One includes the driver and software, R151371.exe. This is the one you want. The trick with installing this printer is you have to execute the file first and then connect the printer when it tells you. Don't start by connecting the printer first and letting Windows find the drivers.

Do when running setup use the dell driver and do not allow your pc to hook to the internet and let windows 7 find the appropriate drivers. USE only the DELL driver!

Here are instructions i posted awhile back for my computers:

Here is what i did to install drivers for windows 7 32/64 bit OS's

    Windows 7 32 bit OS
1 - Go to dell website for dell 922
    printer driver downloads ->
    Drivers & Downloads

2 - Select options for windows vista 32 bit and download the patch/upgrade utility. This is the dell
printer reset utility. Run this utility and reboot pc. The file should be R166239.zip

3 - Download the optional dell printer driver file 151371.zip, release date 3/15/07.
Disconnect pc from internet and unzip files. Before you run setup select the setup file and use right mouse to select properties and check the compatibility tab. Check the box that says: Run this in compatibility mode for... Then select the drop down arrow to select choices for your operating system.

Choose Windows Vista and the correct service pack you had prior to the windows 7 setup. In my case i picked windows vista service pack 2, then run setup.
When the driver asks you to turn on
printer and hook up usb cable do that. When you get to the menu for printing the alignment page do so to show the printer will print and communicate with the pc. If you dont want to print a page but you want to know if the driver worked continue to print alignment page but press cancel as the printer starts to print the page.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Windows 7 64 bit OS
1 - Go to dell website for dell 922 printer
    driver downloads ->
    Drivers & Downloads

2 - Select options for windows vista 32 bit and download the patch/upgrade utility. This is the dell
printer reset utility. Run this utility and reboot pc. The file should be R166239.zip

3 - Download the optional dell printer driver file 151379.zip, release date 4/19/07.

Disconnect pc from internet and unzip files. Before you run setup select the setup file and use right mouse to select properties and check the compatibility tab. Hi your trick doesn't work for me. I had always a windows error installing printer driver. Even with a clean windows 7 installation without any trace of printer driver.

I'm going to explain you how I have installed the printer:

I've followed your trick, but I only was able to scan, I wasn't able to print. After a couple of installations without success I decided to connect to internet and install windows update drivers over the dell installation. And "voilą", dell 922 printer is now printing and scanning, but with windows update drivers.

So, maybe people who doesn't work your trick could try both tricks.

Hope my trick will help you.

    Sorry for my bad English.

The issue people had with the Windows drivers was that the Dell All In One software would not install. Having said that, Windows 7 has its own scanning software that works fine with the Windows drivers. I'm used to the AIO center for my scanning, so I was unable to use the Win drivers.

I'm trying to get my Dell AIO 922 to work with my Acer Aspire 5532, which has Windows 7 64-bit factory installed.

I tried ALL of northstar999's suggestions (get & run R166239.zip, then reboot, disconnect from Net, run 151371.zip, then follow instructions) with no success - I can only scan, but I can't print.

As I seem to have the same problem Demodex has (can scan, can't print, tried several times with no success), I'm hoping his solution will work for me.

QUESTION: How do I "install windows update drivers over the dell installation"?

This is probably really easy, but I think I'm brain-dead after working on this problem for so long. This is my wife's laptop, and I'm not familiar with Win7, as I'm still an XP user here at home and at work.

Thank you very much for reading, and I really hope to hear from someone soon, as I do not want to have to buy a new printer.

Hi, I will try to help you. But sorry, my windows 7 is in Spanish and I don't know if my translation will be correct.

1.- Go to Start --> Control Panel
2.- Into Hardware and Sound go to "See devices and printers"
3.- Your Dell Photo AIO Printer 922 must be here with a yellow triangle
4.- Right click in the printer --> solve problems
5.- Windows will say you there isn't a driver for the printer, and will give you the option of changing the setup of windows update to let him download the latest driver.

Hope these steps will help you.
Please, if you get dell 922 printing, write here your steps with the correct English words.

    Cheers.

It's interesting that I do not have a yellow caution triangle on my printer icon. There's a green check saying everything's OK: http://gregburrus.com/stuff/printer1.jpg

When I try to print something, I get the typical print dialog allowing me to choose a printer: http://gregburrus.com/stuff/print_me.jpg

Then after I click "Print" the "Now Printing" dialog box opens up just like it normally would: http://gregburrus.com/stuff/printing.jpg

Here's where the problem occurs. It won't print, but the print job is listed in the printer: http://gregburrus.com/stuff/printer2.jpg

    I find 2 things strange:

    1. Why does the "Status" say "Deleting - Sent to printer"?
    2. Why is the file size so large? The text file I tried to print is 4KB in size.

I have the printer connected directly to the Acer Aspire 5532. Again, this is a laptop that has never had XP or Vista - it came new with Windows 7.

I followed Demodex' below steps, but when I ran the Troubleshooter there were no problems to find.

    Any ideas?

Do you get the same error when you print a test page from control panel, printers, properties? What about printing something else, same file size in Word or off of a web page?

    Thanks for asking, nabilalk.

After my 1st install (remove printer, install new drivers, etc.) it did NOT print a test page successfully, but after my 2nd install attempt it DID print a test page successfully.

So after the install I tried to print something from a website but it didn't print - it just sat there in the print queue, saying it was deleting it like before (http://gregburrus.com/stuff/printer2.jpg).

    OK, something STRANGE just happened.

I turned the laptop back on (wife turned it off and went to bed) to try to do what nabilalk said (print from Word or a website) and the printer began printing the things I had tried to print before. I just wound up with 3 copies of the text file I had tried to print. Good news, right?

So I open Word, type a dummy file, click Print and..... nothing. The file sits there in the print queue saying it's Deleting it, just like before: http://gregburrus.com/stuff/printer2.jpg

I turned off the printer and then turned it back on, hoping the file would print, but it did not. I turned the printer off, disconnected the printer from the laptop, reconnected the printer to the laptop, turned on the printer... but it did not print.

From the print queue box (http://gregburrus.com/stuff/printer2.jpg) with Word still open I clicked Printer --> Properties --> Advanced. I see here is where I can click "New Driver" - I haven't done so yet, as I wanted to wait to see what you guys said. I'm so close - I would hate to ruin the "progress" I've made.

I decided to click "Print directly to the printer", changing it from "Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster: Start printing immediately," but I got an error. I'm not exactly sure why, but here's what it said: http://gregburrus.com/stuff/error1.jpg

After saving the file I tried to print it 2 more times. Now I have 3 print jobs pending: http://gregburrus.com/stuff/pending2.jpg

I turned the printer off, then turned the laptop off, then turned the laptop back on and turned printer back on and.... nothing. I expected it to print the 3 jobs that were pending but it did not. There's nothing in the print queue now.

    Huh?

Feel free to suggest anything, and if there's anything you want to see let me know so I can take a screengrab of it. Thanks for your help.

When you have that print queue hang up, what happens when you restart the pc and then try to print again after reboot?
