Ok TV I have the update process from a YouTube and the Asus support manual and it is the EZ flash method the update being put on a flash drive and the machine then booted and the EZ mode picked where you see the stick with update sitting there. The BIOS is EUFI I have done this with my Ivy Bridge before but a while ago but it still stands the hairs on the back of my neck!

Well seeing the apocalypse is here now (have upset the partner) I have one thing more to worry about.

My EZ-Flash instructions:

ASUS EZ Flash 2 (for UEFI BIOS)

  • Copy .CAP file to USB stick
  • Insert USB stick into USB 2.0 port
  • Enter BIOS > Reset Defaults
  • Start PC > Press DEL to enter BIOS (Notice that the USB drive is listed as a boot device)
  • Go to Advanced Mode > Tool menu > Asus EZ Flash Utility > ENTER
  • Select the USB Drive > Highlight the .CAP file > ENTER
  • “Do you want to read this file?” > OK
  • “Do you really want to update BIOS?” > OK
  • “Processing (Progress Bar) > “Update Successfully” “System will be reset” > OK
  • Reboots (you can remove USB stick) > “Bios is updating – Do Not Shut Down…” > leave everything alone
  • System shuts down > restarts > shuts down > restarts - After the system has reboot twice the .CAP conversion process is done.
  • Enter BIOS (Del) > check version # > Reset preferred BIOS settings > EXIT menu > Save Changes & Reset
This is how it went on my last flash!

Yep that's the one TV I looked it up last night just to be sure. I shall have to do it as soon as I get the nerve up because I tried contacting the Asus support people to se if it is reversible (probably not) as a YouTube I watched said that it could be done with "specialized" equipment but I would think that would entail sending it back to Asus

There is always that moment of breathlessness (sort of), but EZ Flash 2 is a great utility and very reliable.

Here's instructions from a newer laptop I just did:

ASUS EASY FLASH
Bios Update Utility (on UEFI – Aptio Bios)
AsusTek Easy Flash Utility
Flash Type: Winbond 25X/Q Series

  • Download Bios update file (zipped folder) > Extract all > copy to USB stick
(File Format: Motherboard model#.Version) (USB should be FAT32)
  • Insert USB stick > Start PC > Press F2 to enter Setup
  • Go to the TOOLS Tab > click Asus Easy Flash
(The Bios Update file will already be listed)
  • Use Right Arrow to select the BIOS file > Press ENTER
  • “Do You Want To Update The Bios?” > Select Y > ENTER
“Start Easy Flash”
“Erasing…”
“Programming…”
“Verifying…”
“ Shutdown in 2 Seconds…”
  • PC Shuts down (not a restart).
  • Start the PC > Press F2 to enter Setup > Check/recheck all settings

Now I have gone to bite the bullet and have downloaded the BIOS update and the win flash utility and I ma getting nowhere. The BIOS on open gives me a message to sue a program to open it and the winflash says it has to be used on a laptop and this is an Asus laptop.
Any ideas please see pics for what I am getting

No nor me Brian I did it before but the stick I put it on is at my place and I won't get there until Sunday morning our time.

I am actually having few issues with this machine at the moment with things like the security playing up and just little things that keep going wrong. The security at least is probably going to have to be reinstalled again and the OS if things keep this up.

To be honest I bought this machine last October and was hoping the high end components would make things a whole lot better but as you know it has been a very long hard slog to get this far. The only good thing I can say at the moment is the screen is just perfect at res 1920x1080 and the backlit keyboard too but getting 7 drivers which is why I want to update the BIOS is proving to be a real pain.

What I don't understand is why Asus in their infinite wisdom did not make this machine with an update list where the drivers for 7&8 were available the wifi was the only one the rest a I said I have to update the BIOS to get them.

Why did you decide to use WinFlash Utility?
