Hi avismile10, Mine is hooked up to a network.

I just quickly browsed through the manual for your model and it sounds as if scanning is only supported through network. Kind of strange.

Yes, plug the ethernet cable into the printer and router, run printer setup program and it should find it and set it up. You may want to uninstall the USB printer and software prior to hooking it up to network and start fresh.

After that install the network scan application to be able to scan to and from the computer.

You can download the printer setup and user manuals which will guide you through it http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010415.asp

I have a different model Canon but it works great. Their software setup isn't as polished as some others but it also isn't very bloated.

Sorry I misunderstood. I suppose you could with a crossover cable. I've done it with 2 computers but never a printer and computer.

Have you considered contacting Canon and asking about the scan feature when using USB?

Canon Printer trouble
I just thought I would tell everyone about a recent problem I had with my networked printer at home. We noticed that we could not print from any machine on the network wireless, wired or USB. I checked and checked until I was blue in the face but I could not make any headway. The printer would make...

Canon Printer & Windows 7 64 bit
I am unable to print from my Canon ip4500 using 64 bit drivers. I had this printer installed on my 32 bit XP machine and when I bought a new Windows 7 64 bit computer the printer will only print the windows graphic on the test page. It works fine and prints the text on the 32 bit XP machine. I...

A friend has a new 64 bit Win 7 computer and an "older" Canon BJC 250 printer that she wants to be able to use just as she did with XP. It connects with USB and Win 7 recognizes the connection but the printer does not show up anywhere, such as on Devices and Printers page. I have dowloaded the...

I'm going mad trying to use this printer! :( I have found only the Vista 32bit drivers. I tried to install them (by manually select them, not with an exe application, so I can't choose the vista or xp compatibility check) to my windows 7 32bit but at the end I got an error about the spooling...
