USB Driver Install Problem

My system is Windows 7, 32 bit OS.

What file is the system trying to find?

I am trying to install a USB driver for my scanner.
I have downloaded the setup program from the manufacturer. I ran the setup program for the scanner, with Administrator Privileges. Scanner isn't working.
I went to Device Manager and found it listed under "Imaging devices". There is a yellow triangle with next to the name.
Properties for the device says:
Reinstall the drivers for this device. (Code 18)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.
I tried to reinstall for the scanner and encountered this problem:
Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error attempting to install it.

EPSON Perfection1250
The system cannot find the file specified.

I have tried to manually uninstall and reinstall many times.

What file is the system trying to find?

Yes, I right clicked to look at properties and uninstall/install. This is where the message I mentioned above comes from, including the useful Win7 message "cannot find the file specified"

Yes.
Step 3 shows to browse the DVD. I assume this refers to the Win 7 Pro install / setup DVD.
The Device Manager states "Windows could not find driver software for your device".
If I Browse to "C:\EPSON\EPSON12242_TWAIN5_DRIVER_571A" I get the same response. This is the folder that the EPSON driver unzips to, referred to in your first post.

If I select the first option, "search on the internet automatically", then I get the message I originally referred to: "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. The system cannot find the file specified".

You might check the manual. Many times the software and drivers are loaded before connecting the device, up to a point. Then the device is plugged in and the install finishes. Most will also have you cancel the Windows attempt to install drivers as they must come from the CD or a folder. I've never seen one done any other way work correctly. Don't ask how I know.

The only way I've gotten around a bad install is to delete the device and reinstall it--Using the instructions.
