BSOD Bad Pool Caller  

Hi

I have just built a new computer with the following specs:

Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P 790X Socket AM3 DDR3

Corsair 650W TX Series PSU

Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2 GHz

OCZ 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10666

PowerColor HD 4870 1GB GDDR5

Sony AD-5240S 24x DVD±RW DL Internal SATA Black Bare Drive


When gaming on the computer it will crash and a BSOD will come up saying Bad Pool Caller. Or just a blue screen of death saying there is a problem with your video card. I have reinstalled the drivers for this card and used older drivers however the problem still contuines. I have now put my Gigabyte GTX260 in this sytem above and all seems well at the moment plays games and passes tests with 3DMark 06.


Does this sound like a dirver or a faulty video card problem??


Also one other thing I have notcied about the disk drive is the tray that opens seems to open a bit then open fully has anyone else experinced this problem before?

If this is newer than what you have, install the latest chipset drivers.

The BIOS that came installed on the board was F5. Do you still think its worth upgrading it to F6?

Yes I do. I am of the thought that if they made new bios, use new bios. If it was my personal machine, nothing would stop me from putting it. They don't always list every little change they make.

Ok is it still best to use qflash? to flash it? Also if I have more problems after updating the BIOS can I revert back to the old one?

No. Odds are near 100 percent that video card is in perfect working order as long as you didn't physically drop it or something along those lines.

You can flash to any version any time you want.

I am not familiar with your hardware but whatever method they suggest on the website will be fine. DOS outside of Windows is always better but if you do inside Windows, shut down all software first and do not mess around with power in your home. Turn appliances nearby off first.

Ok I also got a BSOD saying that there was a problem with the Video Card?

Could this becasue the BIOS needs updating?

Sure, it could be because of bios and/or chipset drivers needing update.

Rar the .dmp file and attach to a post and I'll look at it.

OK it hasent really happened since I started using the Gigabyte GTX260 on it. The only time I got a BSOD when using the 260 card was when I minmized Grid and tried to go back into it. Then a blue screen came up. Is it normal for this to happen because some games dont support this function?

No, it's not normal. Any bsod is major system error that should not happen.
