    No driver for unknown device

When I go to start>devices&printers I get the following:

    No driver for unknown device-unknowndevice.jpg

which shows that my PC requires troubleshooting. When I do trouble shooting I get the following:

    No driver for unknown device-driverrequest.jpg

But it doesn't tell me what the "Unknown" device is. So I go to Device Manager and I get this:

    No driver for unknown device-devicemanager.jpg

Still doesn't tell me what the unknown device is. All I have is a MS mouse and an external HD both of which I have had for 4 years.

How do I find out what the Unknown Device is so I can look for the driver the machine requests?
Thanks in advance to one and all.

In Device Manager right click the unknown device-properties-Details
Select Hardware Ids, right click and copy, and google what comes up.

I went through all the hoops and still could not find out what the darn thing is. So I took a chance and disabled it and so far so good. If something suddenly stops working it should give me a clue and I shall post further. Thanks for your reply.

If you go to the PCI Database you can enter the Vendor ID and Device ID (you can only search one at a time) to search for what they are. If you're struggling post them up (the VENID and DEVID) and someone can take a look for you.

The whole point is that under Device Manager/unknown device/properties/details there is no such option called Hardware IDs.

I assure you I did not ignore your advice; I simply could not comply with it.

Take a look at Parent and Siblings to see if anything there helps.

    List any Problem devices
    • Make sure devices are connected and powered on
    • Click the Start Orb, type msinfo32 in the search box. Hit Enter
    • Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
    • Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
    • If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post
    • On the other hand, if no devices are listed, tell me so
