Did you try to connect the printer to the computer, and then turn the printer on? Windows 7 (update) should download the printer driver and install the printer drivers.

If you have manually installed printer drivers, remove them first.

Then try the update method.

Please let us know what you tried, and if you succeeded.

Best regards,

HP PSC 1210 Toolkit

My XP installation just got wiped out completely by a virus attack. The IT guy said I should upgrade to Win7, so, with much trepidation, I did so. I've now got most of the software re-installed, and it's worked pretty well so far, but I've run into a snag that's bugging me.

The reliable HP PSC 1210 I've been using for years installed fine from the Win7 and (fortunately) I haven't had any of the printing registry problems reported elsewhere, but I installed a new print cartridge and need to run a good test page print (and maybe head cleaning) before printing some more CD labels. The HP Toolkit, which prints several different helpful test pages as it progresses through a succession of head cleaning exercises isn't accessible from the Win7 interface, like it was in XP. I just checked on a nearly useless Vista laptop I'd replaced with a retrofit XP on my newer laptop, and it appears that the Toolkit isn't available in Vista either.

The HP support website refers to a document that specifically says that the head cleaning and alignment functions are not available for this printer in Win7! How can they take away functionality that formerly worked fine?? Can't they (or MS, ha ha!) come up with an add-on driver that will provide this minimal functionality that the new OS has destroyed???

I've not been able to find any reference to this specific problem via Google search. Any suggestions??

Aloha from Tom in Kona!

Laser colour printer better than an inkjet?
I had a laser jet printer for many years and got sick of it as it was costing a fortune in ink even though I was hardly using it. The problem I was having was cartridges getting blocked and by time they had been cleaned the ink was running out. Even though I wasn't using it for colour printing it...

Unable to install printer drivers, uninstall old printer, update Windo
My Mom has an HP laptop. She recently purchased a new HP printer and I have been trying for the last 4 days to get it to install/connect. I've been in touch with HP but the links they provide aren't resolving the issues. First, using the CD that came with the printer: hangs up at around 85-90%....

Inkjet cartridge expired? Not necessarily...
I've had a Kodak Diconix 150+ portable inkjet printer for many years, but haven't used it in quite some time. Just the other day I had a need for portable printing so I wondered if the Kodak still worked. Of course the cartridge that I had stupidly left in the thing wouldn't work, but I had...

Printer spooler keeps stopping and printer drivers keep disappearing
I use Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. My problem is: Whenever I try to print something (word, pdf, or any other file); printer spooler stops working and when I check the “Devices and Printers” all the printer drivers seem to be disappeared. I checked the “Print Spooler” in the “Services” tool;...

HP PSC 1210 Driver
Windows 7 automatically installed the driver for my ancient HP psc 1210 printer driver. However, just as in Vista 64, the driver has a glitch. There is always a misalignment in each page that it prints. It started when I upgraded from Windows XP 32 to Windows Vista 64. I believe it's the...
