Nvidia driver problem with win 7 x64?

    Hi,

I did quite a bit of looking around and there seem to be lots of people with Nvidia problems in Win 7, however not exactly what I'm seeing.

    Here's my setup:
    Core 2 Duo E6400
    Abit AB9Pro Mobo
    Leadtek Nvidia 8800 GTS
    3GB RAM
    2x150GB WD HDD -> RAID0
    Win 7 Ultimate x64 RTM

First off when I ran the "Windows Experience Index" I get a 5.7 rating for "gaming graphics" but only a 1.0 for graphics (Areo performance)

Along with that I am noticing "slowness" with desktop and IE rendering performance. For example it takes a long time to browse to a new page (much longer than it did under vista) or to even open a new blank tab. I have also noticed slow performance with the built in games. When dealing cards for solitare, the dealing animation "stutters" and when starting mine sweeper, the animation of the board being drawn "stutters" too.

I had this behavior with the Nvidia 191.07 drivers so I decided to give the Nvidia beta 195.39 drivers a try. They too show the same problem.

Anyone have any suggestions what I can do to get things working better? Is anyone else seeing this with a similar (or different) configuration?

Oh, I should also mention that I upgraded to the latest BIOS for my mobo as suggested elsewhere and that did not help either.

TIA for any and all help!

Uninstall the nvidia display drivers in add/remove programs, followed by any other nvidia drivers. Reboot into safe mode and run driver sweeper, reboot again into safe mode and install the newest drivers - run as adminstartor and choose the right x32 or x64 drivers. Update your chipset drivers too.

WEI for me is also different - 5.5 for gaming and 4.4 for aero???

THanks for the suggestion! I'll get on that!

One quick question on recommended procedure. After uninstalling the Nvidia driver it's going to ask me to reboot to complete the removal. Should I let the machine come back up into "regular" mode or reboot directly into safe mode?

    Thanks!

Don't reboot, ignore it. Uninstall from the control panel, then uninstall other drivers. Only then reboot into safe mode.

Wanted to report the results of my "work."

Unfortunately I am still seeing the exact same problem after completing all of the steps (uninstall, boot safe mode, driver sweeper, reboot safe mode, install drivers, reboot normal mode)

Any other suggestions as to what to try or what I can check on to see what's going wrong?

Still not sure if this is a display driver issue or something else.

Go into Control Panel and disable Aero, I think it is in Programs and Features

This was just moved to the drivers section. (My bad on improper placement! )

Has anyone else seen similar problems with Nvidia (or any other) drivers?

I'm not 100% certain what the problem is right now. I'm just guessing it's the video drivers.

Hi. It is working fine for me. See My System Specs for my entire setup, but I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit with a EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 (overclocked to 680 MHz) and it has a Windows Experience rating of 7.3 for gaming and a 7.3 for graphics. I just installed the video drivers that came with the installation disk of the video card and it works fine. This is a brand new card though.

Install the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard, then install the latest video driver from NVIDIA's site.
