Dell Dimension 2400 - Resolution Problems

Hello,

I am installing Windows 7 on my parents computer. I just did a fresh install (not an upgrade) and ran into a problem.

I downloaded the drivers from the Dell website, and figured it would solve my problem of not being able to change the resolution. It didn't.

Now I am stuck. Is this computer just not able to handle Windows 7? Any help is greatly appreciated! I'm about to pull my hair out!

Update: I was able to change the resolution by going to:

Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display > Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings > List All Modes > 1024 by 768, 256 colors, Default Refresh

It was originally set to 640 by 480, High Color (16 bit), Default Refresh.

Now, the colors are terrible! I can barely read anything. Any suggestions on what driver I am missing?

Dell Dell Dell. Following their site prompts for windows compatible systems seems to lead to" don't own a computer on this list? click here to shop for a new Dell. So what I would suggest is to go to device manager>display adapter>properties>details tab>drop down menu>hardware id. snip and post the code. Then we can see if torrentg can find you a modded driver for your onboard graphics It's intel so???. Another suggestion is to purchase a new addon graphics card. http://support.dell.com/support/topi...F&docid=364766

Going to try and find the driver for you

They only have it for XP so were going to take a long shot here...

Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows* XP (exe)

Run the driver installer in Windows XP Service Pack 2 compatibility mode (see here for how to use compatibility mode)...like I said it is a long shot but this driver is the best you are going to get for your video hardware

You may be out of luck unless you upgrade your graphics. I've tried installing 7 on older Dells and the graphics would be messed up no matter what.

Z;

I have a Dell D505 laptop with the 855 chipset. I do not remember where I found it, but I am using a Vista chipset driver package for 852 - 911 chipsets but nothing as old as 845.

A short time ago, I found a suggestion that the onboard video memory could be increased to 8MB in the BIOS on some Dell systems. I looked at the 2400 User manual but could not detirmine if that setting was there. Would be worth a look?

Cheers!
Robert
