    Keyboard filter and Windows 7

    Hi,

I just got my Windows 7 upgrade kit in the mail today. When I got to the Compatibility Report, it told me this:

"These devices might not work properly after the upgrade. Before upgrading, we recommend updating the drivers for these devices. Cancel the upgrade, open Control Panel and search for "update device drivers", or go to the device manufacturer's website to search for updated drivers."

      • Keyboard Filter

    And

"These programs might not work properly after the upgrade. We recommend uninstalling these programs before upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, open Control Panel, and search for "uninstall a program". (Note: Programs marked as * can be safely reinstalled after the upgrade.)"

      • HP MediaSmart Music/Photo/Video *
      • iTunes (Please deauthorize computer prior to upgrade)
      • Agatha Christie - Death on the Nile *
      • Bejeweled 2 Deluxe *
      • Chuzzle Deluxe *
      • Slingo Deluxe *
      • Wedding Dash *
      • Zuma Deluxe *

I'm afraid to continue the upgrade because I don't know what's going to happen or how it's going to affect the programs and devices. Should I just go ahead and uninstall everything listed in the second message? And how do I update the driver for the Keyboard Filter? I don't really know what I'm doing. Please help. :)

    Welcome to sevenforums Marie:

As for your games... they should all still work. it says might not work.

Yes you will want to de-authorize iTunes which is easy!

HP MediaSmart is OK see this: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/com...ties&os=32-bit

What puzzles me it the keyboard filter issue. What is the manufacturer and model of your keyboard?

Hi Guys I found in my installation (Hewlett Packard) the only driver windows didnt have a generic one was the Hewlett packard quick launch buttons which are for the keyboard filter

Driver Management concluded the process to install driver NULL Driver for Device Instance ID {A87C2E0F-9A46-46B8-8EC4-E33355FBE1F7}\KEYBOARDFILTER\5&3E9A9B&0&01 with the following status: 0xe0000203.

Thanks for the quick reply, Darryl. What do I do after I click on the HP MediaSmart link you sent me? All it shows is a green check mark and says, "Compatible. No action required."

Do I check what manufacturer and model of my keyboard by checking under Device Manager? If so, it says:

    Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard

No you dont need to because of the compatable ranking... you are good to go! Just back up your data first if you have an external HDD.

Thanks Darryl. I have one more question. Do I still need to upgrade the driver for the keyboard filter?

Not even listed on MS Keyboard page for sw dl... http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/do...px?category=mk

This one from cnet is dated 2001...
Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard 5.1.2600.2709 - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

I'm pretty sure that by the model this is some type of wireless IR Media Center keyboard. In all probability, it will work fine... may lose a media center funtion.
