Added 4th HD: system stays on Welcome screen for 20 minutes

I was going to add a third and fourth HD to my system but after adding the last one Windows boots and then stays at the welcome screen for like 20 minutes. All this time the HD light is on.
First I thought it was the HD but when trying a different one I'm getting the same results.
I've swapped drives but to no avail.
When doing a safe boot everything's fine. Same as when I do a diagnostic boot from msconfig. (disabling all services and startup programs in msconfig doesn't solve it)
So this has to be a driver problem but how do I find out what's wrong? msconfig doesn't tell you which drivers it disables when doing a diagnostic boot.
My system uses an Intel C600 series SATA AHCI controller and the drivers I'm using are the latest C600 provided by Alienware (3.5.0.1092). They're from 2012 but Alienware doesn't provide newer versions for my system. Can I try generic drivers from Intel or would it be better to rely on standard MS Windows 7 drivers? I don't want to risk losing data.

Screen stays off after lid is opened
Ohai all, again. My laptop screen stays off when I close the lid. I set the laptop to 'do nothing' (turn off the screen), when I close the lid. When I open it, the screen stays off. The only way to fix it from here is to either turn it off or to put it in sleep mode (with my designated button)....
