How do you go about installing W7 on an older system without Vista drivers?

If you have the win7 installation disk, just throw it in and install. It may happen that it does not find all the drivers for your hardware if that is really old. Then you may have to scout for them or try with Vista drivers - if available.
I have seen several people that successfully installed win7 on really old system. So there is a good chance it will work.
Yeah, that may be a problem. Without the proper drivers (especially for the HDD), you are going nowhere. You can check the component manufacturers sites whether they have win7 drivers, but I doubt it.
I think Packard Bell is now part of Acer. They still sell now in Europe. just a couple of weeks ago I saw a few in an electronics store in Germany.
