Read all the instructions carefully and follow them to the letter. If you have a laptop make sure it is plugged in and the battery is fully charged before you start, may BIOS updates will not start if you are not plugged in. If you have a UPS for a desktop machine make sure it is working. The main thing you don't want to happen is to lose power while doing the update.
Good luck.
Hello TPM.
Is there a specific reason you want to do this, as in to fix a issue you're having, or is it just something you want to do.
Save the effort then, that just isn't going to happen with a bios update from Acer.
Hate to say it but if you want to overclock you're going to have to break down and get a real motherboard. If you do cheapest route would be something along the lines of an AM2+ 780G based board that will work with your current components.
Stormy13 is correct, you need to buy the right stuff to overclock. Never mess with a stock system you are only asking for trouble.
yea that's what i was afraid of.... oh well haha i'll just have to get me some cash and go ahead and throw in that phenom while i'm at it
ThePizzaMan,
Most important thing to do before flashing any bios is to be prepared for a bad flash as a result of which your machine refuses to boot. This means having a bootable media such as a flash drive from which you can recover your bios i.e. flash back to the original working bios. I have done some bios updating and am pretty well versed in how to go about it, but believe me my bp still rises a notch or two when i see that blank screen with maybe a LED on, fan whirring. Also as others have said, bios flashing is a risky business which can brick your mobo, so dont do it unless there is some new beneficial feature it brings to your machine.
