Help: Network controller doesn't have a driver. When I click on "Devices and Printers" there's a little yellow triangle next to the icon for my computer. When I right click and click on Troubleshoot I get a message that says: "The driver for the network controller not installed. Install the latest driver." After I "apply the fix" (looking online for a driver) I briefly see a message that indicates the system is intalling drivers for devices, but then it says that the driver installation failed. I downloaded the latest drivers for NVIDIA nForce 630i from the NVIDIA site, and installed it, but I still get the "Network controller doesn't have a driver" message. I've tried to update the driver, but it never finds it online. Am I missing something here, like a driver? I downloaded the Pitstop software and scanned my system, and it says I have all the latest drivers.
It's a Gateway computer, and I did a clean install of Win 7 Pro, because it came with Vista HP. I'm a bit perphlexed. I have had some network problems in the sense that other computers on the network can't see my Windows 7 shared drives, but I can see theirs.
[Update: I went to the Gateway site, entered my serial number, and downloaded the chipset driver pack, and the network driver itself. When I tried to install the network driver after unzipping and extracting everything, by using "update" in preferences, I got a message that the driver wasn't found. After that I just ran the setup for the chipset which did an installation wizard. Still no network driver installed. What's wrong? (I did download the 64-bit versions of everything.)]

I still have this problem. Anyone have any suggestions? If I go into device manager it says that the network controller, under "other devices" has no driver. If I "scan for hardware changes" it attempts to install a driver, but fails. Happens over and over again. The only thing I can think of to do is to try uninstalling the device, reboot, and see if that helps. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Gateway DX4720-03 OS Windows Vista HP 64-bit, Windows 7 P 64-bit, Leopard 10.5.8, Windows 7 P 32-bit CPU Pentium(R) Dual-Core E5200 @ 2.50GHz Motherboard ACPI x64 Memory 4.00GB Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 7100 / NVIDIA nForce 630i Sound Card Onboard Sound Monitor(s) Displays Samsumg Syncmaster 2233SW, Syncmaster 205BW Screen Resolution 1680X1050 and 1920X1080 Keyboard Kinesis Advantage Mouse Trackball PSU Generic (cheap) 550W Case Gateway Cooling 30 W Hard Drives WDC WD64 00AAKS-22A7B SCSI

Since I'm not using wireless networking I've deactivated it for now. If I remember correctly it's a Belkin. Quote: PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0023&SUBSYS_80011799&REV_01

Well if your wireless card is missing a driver, you need to get it, it doesn't matter if you are not using wireless, get all your devices working.
That PCI tells us that it's a device made by Atheros, my adapter is same but my driver is supplied by Microsoft.
If your issue is indeed the wireless adapater, try going to the vendor website and see if there is a wireless network driver to suit your machine. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Lenovo ThinkPad T60 OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit CPU GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) DuoCore T2400 @ 1.83GHz Motherboard Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) Memory 2.00 GB Graphics Card Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Sound Card SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays ThinkPad Display Screen Resolution 1400x1050 Keyboard Standard Keyboard Mouse HID-compliant Mouse Hard Drives 100Gb SATA Internet Speed Cable Broadband - 54Mbps Other Info Intel(R) PRO/1000 PL Network Connection

Thanks. Looks like there were two versions of the driver on the Belkin site and in my original setup I chose the wrong one. I then forgot about it because it wasn't something I use, until I noticed the little yellow triangle. I just uninstalled that version and installed the other one, and it seems to be working OK.
Thanks again, for helping me track this down. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Gateway DX4720-03 OS Windows Vista HP 64-bit, Windows 7 P 64-bit, Leopard 10.5.8, Windows 7 P 32-bit CPU Pentium(R) Dual-Core E5200 @ 2.50GHz Motherboard ACPI x64 Memory 4.00GB Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 7100 / NVIDIA nForce 630i Sound Card Onboard Sound Monitor(s) Displays Samsumg Syncmaster 2233SW, Syncmaster 205BW Screen Resolution 1680X1050 and 1920X1080 Keyboard Kinesis Advantage Mouse Trackball PSU Generic (cheap) 550W Case Gateway Cooling 30 W Hard Drives WDC WD64 00AAKS-22A7B SCSI
