    W7 x64 Super Coolscan 5000 ED USB

    Sygnus21

    First, thanks for help posts and help.

    I followed your directions carefully
    (Getting your Nikon Coolscan to work on W7 x64).

    It still won't find the driver. My C:\Program Files (x86)\Nikon\NkScan4\Nikon Files folder has the NKScnUSD.DLL and your scanners.inf, version:

    ;========================= Begin of scanners.inf ===============================
    ; scanners.inf — Windows Still Image Setup File
    ; Based on Unoffical Vista X64 driver of LS-8000ED/9000ED for Nikon Scan 4.03 - Photo.net Digital Darkroom Forum by Steel Chn
    ; LS-4000 added by Bob Johnson, Earthbound Light
    [Version]
    Signature="$CHICAGO$"
    Class=Image
    ClassGUID={6bdd1fc6-810f-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f}
    Provider=%Provider%
    DriverVer=1/1/2009,1.0
    [Manufacturer]
    %Mfg%=Models,ntamd64

    When I do the Update Driver Software on the LS-5000 ED and point it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Nikon\NkScan4\Nikon Files (even just the (x86) folder up top) -- with subfolders checked, I still get "Windows could not find driver softwarwe..."

    Did you say USB 5000 had a fix to the INF?

    Thanks for your help.

    If you download the inf i provide, yes the 5000 is included. You need to download the file from me, the file you downloaded from photonet does not have the 5000 included.

    Read step #2 of my tutorial...

    2- Then go my website and download this zip file - scanners.zip (includes 5000 fix)

    INF

    I went to your website per the link

    Nikon Coolscan Working under W7 64-bit

    and downloaded zip

    http://www.exposedvisions.com/images/scanners.zip

    Extracted scanners.inf (size 3901 bytes) to the "Nikon Files" folder (where DLL is). Tried driver update from there. Nothing.

    What am I missing?

    Thanks

    Does the "Nikon Files" folder also include the "NKScnUSD.DLL" ? And are you pointing to that folder when looking for the driver?

    PS - Make sure the scanner is powered up and connected before looking for the driver.

    INF

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Nikon\NkScan4\Nikon Files has 2 files:

    1. NKScnUSD.dll (from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Nikon\Driver\ScanUSB)
    Version 1.0.0.3002 dated 12/4/2002
    NOTE SCANUSB not SCAN1394 as your instructions say. There is no Scan1394 folder, since this is a USB 5000 ED.

    2. scanners.inf (from you Website as above in my previous reply)3901 bytes, starting with...
    ;========================= Begin of scanners.inf ===============================
    ; scanners.inf — Windows Still Image Setup File
    ; Based on Unoffical Vista X64 driver of LS-8000ED/9000ED for Nikon Scan 4.03 - Photo.net Digital Darkroom Forum by Steel Chn

    [Version]
    Signature="$CHICAGO$"
    Class=Image
    ClassGUID={6bdd1fc6-810f-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f}
    Provider=%Provider%
    DriverVer=1/1/2009,1.0
    [Manufacturer]
    %Mfg%=Models,ntamd64

    I'm so close I can feel it.

    Please help.

    Thanks so much!

    OK, I found what I think was an error with the file. Redownload and try again. Please let me know if it worked.

    Thanks

    Unfortunately the instructions are only for the Nikon Coolscan 4000, 5000, 8000, and 9000 series. The older lV & V coolscans aren't supported here.

    Sorry.

    You can follow the suggestions in this post if you like but I can't guarantee it'll work - Getting your Nikon Coolscan to work on W7 x64

    Good luck
    Hi - Thankyou for the pointer; I used your scanners.inf and simply copied the line

    "Nikon LS-40" = USBScanner,USB\Vid_04b0&Pid_4000

    from the [Models] section down to the [Models.ntamd64] section and it seems to have installed and appears to work fine (well from an initial play with it at least

    So you simply moved it to the 64-bit section. Good, and happy to hear it worked for you.

    And credit for the inf file belongs to Steel Chn and his post, which led me to compile things here and host the file on my website instead of having to create the file yourself, which was required per his instructions. I also added the the LS5000 to the file per a response to his post. Other than that, the inf file is his creation.

    At any rate I'm glad my post here is helping a lot of folks with their Nikon Scanner(s).

    Thanks
