    Promise Driver?

Before I buy Windows 7, I would like to know if my Promise Ultra100 TX2 IDE Pci card will be detected and work? I only have a single ide channel on this mobo (C drive & DVD), and need this card to work for my other two hard drives. I'm 71 years old and don't have the money to replace this with sata drives. Or just stay with XP & Ubuntu?

No way it will work, even in Vista, well actually it did work for a while, had to remove it for some reason, connected it back up and the drive gave the "click of death"

    Hi Dick471,

If you're still running a Promise Ultra100 TX2 IDE Pci card I can only imagine how old your computer is. You may want to run this Microsoft tool for Window 7 to determine if the operating system will run on your computer.

Here's one for Windows 7 - Download details: Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

Here's one for Vista - Download details: Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor

These will show you what items you need to upgrade, if any.

    Good luck

Mobo is only two years old (dual core w/4GB memory). Some data IDE drives are six years old. Took my promise card & old ide drive to local computer store running Windows 7. They installed my promise card & HD in their machine, installed my old XP drivers, and it works just fine. But my HP 6L printer won't work. Still might buy W7, but Ubuntu finds all hardware & runs great.

    Glad to hear that.

I would still run that W7 app I told you about. Not only will it scan your hardware but also the software. It can't hurt and it's free. Plus you'll at least know where you stand.

    Good luck.
