Windows 7: USBPORT.SYS causing BSOD

12 Dec 2009   #1

Windows 7 (64 bit)

I just upgraded to Windows 7 (64 bit) last weekend by doing a clean install from a purchase. I am currently using a HP Pavilion a6500f computer with a 500GB hard drive. I have been getting BSOD errors over the last several days and it is driving me crazy. I am considering going back to XP or Vista if I can't get this fixed soon.

All of the mindump files mention USBPORT.SYS. I'm assuming that has something to do with my usb ports which only have the following items attached:
  1. HP Deskjet F4280 Printer
  2. Linksys USB Network Adapter
  3. WD 500GB My Passport (plugged in some of the time)
I ran Driver Detective to see if there was an out of date USB driver, but nothing showed. I've included some screenshots of the scan.

Windows 7 Ultmate 32 bit 6.1.7600 Build 7600

Hi Alexrogers,
I'm wondering if there is a BIOS update to address the USB issue? Also I would go to the System properties and turn the off "automatic restart" when a blue screen occurs so you can see the STOP:0x0000 error message and research it.

To turn that option off go to Control Panel > System icon> click Advanced System Settings > Under the
"Startup and System Recover" heading click the "Settings" button and uncheck the box for "Automatically Restart".
