    Dell touchpad driver cannot start

    Hey All,
I have had this problem since installing windows 7 beta, and have not been able to find a fix, so here i go...

I have a Dell XPS m1330 and exactly 50% of the time my dell synaptics touchpad mouse driver does not work. What I mean by that is every other time i boot my computer device manager says "code 10: device cannot start". I have tried installing the lastest Dell Vista drivers for the touchpad, and I have even gone straight to synaptics website and downloaded their latest drivers as well. Neither fixed the problem.

If anyone has any idea's that could help me with this problem it would be appreciated.

    hello madchills and welcome....

    have you tried these drivers?
    Drivers | Synaptics
while they might be generic we can at least check if the base drivers work...

    darkassain,
Thanks for the quick reply! Sadly, however, I have already tried those drivers. I still have the same problem. My touchpad still only works half the time, one half device manager states: "this driver has loaded successfully", the second half device manager states: "code 10: this device cannot start".

No, this did not happen when I had vista installed. I also didn't keep the base OS drivers installed for longer than an hour or so (i needed to disable tap to click)

I have not gotten a windows update saying new dell (or synaptic) drivers since installing windows 7. I have however looked into the latest driver for synaptic, and i have confirmed i have the latest version (v. 10.1.8)

    Same Touchpad - Mouse issue

I am having the same issue with my mouse on my Dell Latitude E6500. It works for about 2 reboots, then it won't click. I can move the mouse, but when I click on something, it looses the focus of that window. I can re-install the Synaptics driver mentioned in this thread, reboot and it will work. But once I reboot or shut-down again, it is gone. I've tried the Dell drivers as well. External mouse plugged in results in the same effect.

    Anyone have any suggestions?
    thanks

Try the Generic Synaptics driver -- versions for VISTA 32 and 64 bit seem to work on most laptops. Set up display options on start so you can check all the options you want when you boot up.

After you've got it working then don't display the start up screen.

I prefer to disable the touchpad completely - if I enable it I get the cursor randomly jumping all over the place making decent input impossible.

    cheers

Hi, I have the same issue on an Asus G50vt-a2.

I need to start my laptop twice in order to use it. Any other ideas on how to fix?

    Thanks!

Same here with a Latitude D620 running Win7. Touchpad, mouse button and L/R mouse buttons don't work every other full start or restart. If I send it into hibernate/standby, it comes back on and works OK each time.

External mouse always works when I plug one in. I installed Synaptics Pointing Device Driver 11.1.4.0, but nothing changed.

I have not had another OS on this laptop since I don't have another one available right now other than Win7. I may try XPx64, temporarily, after I get my slipstream disc perfected.

Just to follow this up, my laptop seems to have automagically fixed itself. Not sure how, maybe Windows Update grabbed a fix somehow.

Quite happy about it though. :)
