Install on Marvell 88SE6102 PATA controller

I'm trying to install Windows 7 Professional x64 on a HDD drive connected to the Marvell 88SE6102 IDE controller.

The installation routine doesn't can't find any drive. And i wasn't been able to find suitable drivers to recognize the controller.
I've tried the Marvell 61xx SATA and Marvell 61xx RAID drivers. Someone suggested to try the intel chipset driver, so i tried them also. So far without any positive result.

The board is Asus P5Q SE2. The connected drive is recognized on boot.

    Has anyone an idea?

ok, it the exe version, but i extracted the files. I've chosen the WIN7 folder in it. The install routine offers me 2x 2-Port SATA, 2x 4-Port SATA and the SMBus drivers (the board has 6 SATA ports). I've selected them all. No result.

And i don't understand how an intel driver could support Marvell controller ???

Your chipset is Intel not Marvell.

True, but the board has a IDE connection from the Marvell controller. And that's where the HDD is attached to.

ASUS P5Q SE2 - IDE controller doesnt work?

    Hello all

I also have problems using my IDE-dvd-drive in Windows 7 x64 on my motherboard Asus P5Q SE2.

Firstly I encountered problem while installing Win7 x64 from scratch on an empty SATA harddisk. Apparently the Win7-installation could not find the drivers (..for the IDE-controller I have learned later).

Instead I could without problem install WinXP x64 on my PC (also from a dvd) and instantly afterwards installe Win7 on top of WinXP. However my dvd-drive doesn't work properly now under Win7 x64.

For instance I cannot use original game-dvd's such as fx Half-life2. Nothing happens and Windows freezes, when I use the DVD-drive.

This IDE-controller-Win7-problem on my ASUS-mobo is really killing me!!

Any solutions? (..other than buying a SATA-dvd-drive)

    Many thanks in advance.

    Well...
No good news from me. I gave it up.
Since it's not the first and only problem with ASUS boards , I've decided to quit on ASUS.

    EDIT:
I can't help you with a software solution, but there are IDE -> SATA converter for low money. But they don't work on some boards, so a new DVD drive (or board ? ) might be unavoidable.

If you find a solution, plz post it here.

    2 temporary solutions

    Hello HackAR

    Thx for your reply.

I have been (and still am) in contact with ASUS' supportteam.

ASUS suggested me to change the BIOS SATA/IDE-setting to "combined" instead of "enhanced".

At the same time I discovered that I had used a 40-way IDE-cable and not a 80-way, which I therefore quickly replaced... and voila! ..now my dvd-drive works like a charm in Windows 7.

(I can actually even change the BIOS-setting back to "enhanced" and my dvd-drive will still work correctly in Windows).

However, my initial problem with a missing driver for the Intel Marvell IDE Controller still exist in Windows 7.

With a little luck, ASUS may find a solution for me, hopefully.

Otherwise my only "end-solution" would be to buy a SATA dvd-drive instead, because I fear that next time I want to do a clean reinstall of Windows7, then I still need to install WinXP x64 first due to the "missing" IDE Controller driver..

I must admit that ASUS bad decision to incorporate a cheap IDE Controller is just as bad as Windows 7 not being able to recognize an appropriate driver, when WinXP does the job perfect!?

...then again, we "gotta" keep the industry rolling by constantly buying new hardware, eh?..... sigh!
