    Dell laptop screen occasionally shakes extremely


    Hi,

    Wasn't sure what forum to post this in as there doesn't appear to be any troubleshooting specific forum. Figured this may be a driver issue so here seemed as good a place as any.

    My father has a dell laptop that is about 4-5 years old. It originally came with winxp and vista dual booted on it, recently I put windows 7 ultimate on it as he wanted to use it. The issue is that randomly the screen will start flickering and shaking violently, to the point where you can't really make out anything. The way it flickers or shakes will vary if you move the mouse around, move the mouse down and it only shakes about an inch, move it to the top and it shakes from one side to the other, etc...

    This never happened on XP but used to happen with vista too. When it happened two years ago with vista I just switched him to XP and it worked fine. Now that it's on 7 it's happening again.

    There's no video card in there, it is using the onboard intel graphics. I've tried updating the drives to the specific (most recent) intel windows 7 drivers for that board but no dice. I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this and if it's something on 7 I can just turn off, like aero or something.

    Any ideas? Need any additional info?
