hey karelo thanks for the Help so far... the speakers seem to be working fine when i test them. But the front two are the only speakers that work when i play music on the media player where i have selected my audio o/p device as CMI8738 and when i play music on vlc where there too i have selected dolby surround as my audio channels... so more help please.
Well.. at this point it's kinda offtopic if your audio driver works and your speakers make sound if you test them.
Your "music" is probably .mp3 encoded. That means it can only be stereo not 5.1. What you are looking for is a 5.1 .ACC encoded audio file. For instance try to watch a DVD movie with 5.1 sound. I know they have a plugin for winamp where you can clone your front speakers with the rear ones so all speakers play, only that it's still 2.0 stereo. I don't remember the plugin name so don't bother asking me.
    Hope i could help you.
