Windows 7: nForce 4 Chipset Driver

I've tried installing nforce4_amd_winvistax64_15.00_english_whql driver on my secondary rig (A8N-SLI), and most everything appears to have installed properly, except the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Just as with my primary rig (A8N32-SLI Deluxe) was before driver installation, it lists 3 of 3 different items, for a total of 9. After installation on the primary, it consolidates these into just 5 items, with two of them relabled Nvidia nForce Serial ATA Controller. I've tried the installation 3 times with the same results. The two motherboards are so similar, I expected the same results on each. This leaves me wondering if it is a matter of driver version, or just some unchangeable difference in hardware?

So is something not working properly after install or are you just worried as to why it consolidates them after installation?

Just the reverse, I'm concerned why they are NOT consolidated. The fact that the controllers work doesn't mean that they are working as well as they should.

Have you tried the Nvidia driver page to see if it finds anything more recent?

Personally, I would use ATTO Disk benchmark or something similar for a pre and post install benchmark to actually see if the drivers are working as they should. That, and get the latest drivers straight from NVIDIA as suggested (if you haven't already done so).

You mean the non-existent due to being declared legacy NF4 drivers?

Can't speak for anyone else but I have an A8N-SLI SE with 7 x64 running on it with just the default drivers that 7 installed for it, and it runs just fine. About the best you're going to get is to try the last Vista driver or have a good read over here,

Thanks, I have one downloading for VistaWin7, maybe it will do better. That is something about Nvidia that I wish hadn't changed. They used to be good about backward compatiblity and support for their old hardware...at least in video cards.

No joy. I installed the 1549-1551 driver from that forum, but the changes that it made didn't help. In fact it just made a couple of changes that I might have to fix. Even though it said nothing about a display driver in the setup wizard, it still install an older video driver than the current one. There was also something called an "away mode driver" which I went ahead and let install, because I had no idea of what it is?

To answer your rhetoric question, no. Latest as in the latest NVIDIA Legacy drivers they have for Vista, as you just mentioned.
