Toshiba laptop - other devices needs a driver

Hello my name is Kathy

I am new here and need some help. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop. I did a clean install of windows 7 Ultimate from windows xp. now my device manger says "other devices- video controller" needs a driver i have looked everywhere for this driver but im not sure what the video controller even is so here i am looking for help. I have been working on this for 4 days now. so here are the specs of my laptop. I probably have given to much info on my laptop, i would rather have to much than not enough so someone please help me.

Welcome to seven forums. Kathy: The best way to find out which drivers are needed is to go to your device manager and check for those devices that have a yellow triangle next to them. Right now I can tell you need a driver for your video card it's listed as standard VGA right now. Toshiba lists several different models of the S10. So lets try this go to device manager right click on display adapter>properties>details tab>drop down menu>hardware id>Then Copy and Paste the hardware id string. this will give use the onboard Video adapter, and we can find driver a if possible since your laptop hasn't been supported since XP. Also did you install the 32 or 64 bit 7? Thanks. Fabe

Well this is a new one to me, It's a Toshiba Intel MontaraGT display *2855GM graphics controller. You can try using the driver on the windows update cataloger. first one is the newest Add to basket>View basket>browse and download to your desktop. Unpack if needed. then find the setup.exe file>click properties>compatibility>drop down menu>choose XP> then check the box run in compatibility mode. Hopefully it will install as it is an older driver. After install check device manager to see if it no longer says standard VGA. Please post back. Thanks. Fabe Microsoft Update Catalog

As this is an older laptop I'm hoping we can get 7 to run on it. did you check device manager your any other needed drivers? Ones with yellow triangles? thanks

i tried what u said and im still getting the same thing.

Windows was unable to install your video controller

Windows could not the find the driver software for this device.

If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit it's website
and check the surport section for driver software.

this is what i get every time i tried to install a driver. im not very smart with computers but i am learning.so i'm not sure else to try.

Well Yyou can try too froce the driver to install by going to device manager click on display>update driver>browse>let me pick>browse>navigateto where you downloaded the driver>click (or double click) the .inf file >hit ok>then next and see if it will install that way. If not are you having any problems with running 7 besides not having a driver for your specific card? The bottom driver on the catalog list is specific to your laptop http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=Intel%2082855%20GM%20graphics%20controller It's another one to try. Problem is not every system can run 7 and the driver for yout Toshiba in the calalog is from 4/23/03. Try the above. I would also like to see you Copy and Paste a view of your device manager. Thanks. open devce manager Hold down the left clicker on your mouse run it over the device manager view till it is all blue. Stop. Then hold down the right clicker on the mouse and transfer it to the posting area. You'll have to rezize the forums to allow you to view both at the same tiime in order to transfer it. Not all vista drivers work with w7, but the majority do. I guess at the enf of it all, if there is no "w7" driver for your device than there really isn't one. All you can do is search for the right now.

I just got the Intel Video drivers to stick on my girfriend's Toshiba A15-S129 (also Montara graphics chip) by taking ownership of c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys. Then obfuscating that file (which then allows you to uninstall the Standard VGA Driver), then installing the Win2000 drivers from 6.14.10.3722 by pointing, through Device Manager, to the win2000 folder.
Aero doesn't work and trying to upgrade to Vista drivers gives BSOD but it stops the cycle of trying to install and reboot (and failing) the "latest" Intel or Toshiba drivers.
Now sleep and hibernate work. My next step will be to try to get WDDM drivers to not BSOD and shoot for Aero.

You could also try these drivers following the same idea: Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows* XP (exe)
