    SD card reader/Laptop

I have a gateway laptop with a built in SD card reader. When I ran XP I could insert the SD card and browse the contents and such w/o having to install any additional drivers. Now that I have Win7 this is not the case. Nothing I insert in the SD slot reads. The card continues to work just fine in my camera and phone.

Any advice on how to find what driver(s) I might need?

(the SD card I used to have was a 512mb by SanDisk and I have a 2Gb by Patriot right now, neither work).

    Ho there
I can't remember where I downloaded it from but the O2 drivers seem to work

this one might work. Unfortunately I can't remember where I downloaded my working driver from.

O2Micro Flash Memory Card Driver 3.00.zip - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com

If this doesn't work try googling on O2micro or looking for their drivers directly.

My one however is called MS1_MPI_OZ128_FlashMemoryCard_Reader_Driver_v2.

    (from O2micro).

Works on x-86 and x-64 (Vista too and XP pro 64 bit)

    Cheers

    Thanks Jimbo.

I was able to find the drivers through the Gateway site. only problem... my computer wants to format it when I insert the SDcard and then when I put it in my camera it wants to reformat it differently, thus I lose all my pictures. When it is formatted by the camera it works in my cell phone (palm pilot Treo)

Any ideas? At this point I'm totally stuck.

As a last resort can you connect your camera to the laptop and import the pictures like that?

    connect camera alternatives

I don't have the proper usb connecting cord. I can put the SD card in my roommates computer (as my SD card works just fine in it) and save it to a thumb drive.

It's not the end of the world, but I'd like to have the capabilities I had before I installed 7.

    thanks though!

    Hi,
I have the same problem with sd built in card reader,
    in XP it works.
O2Micro Flash Memory Card Driver is installed in win7, however card is not visible - no reaction when I insert it. I tried to install driver from cd delivered with my laptop (it is driver for xp) but it removed my wifi driver - card reader did not work anyway. I could not reinstall wifi card (linksys) and the only way was to restore system. Now wifi works but still no solution for sd card (driver O2 in manager looks OK).

    Would appreciate any hints.
    thanks!

    Hi all
If there is an "Upload" area on this site I could upload the generic SD card driver that seems to work with several different laptops I've tried.

The file is too big to attach to the post however

    Cheers

    thx,
It is not a very problematic issue - I can use any usb reader (or connect my camera through usb), however it would be good to know how to solve that problem.

I'm having the same sort of SD card problem on my laptop. I have it set up as dual boot XP / Win7. SD card is read fine under XP, but not seen at all in Win7. I notice under device manager there is an "unknown device" under "other devices". Perhaps this is the SD Card. Anyway, I tried updating the drivers to that device and Win7 could not find any. Still searching for a solution...

    Hi there
This site seems to have a good number of "Generic" laptop drivers - I obtained another SD reader and a webcam driver that both work on W7 x-64.

    Twinhead GmbH

Select a model that looks something like your laptop -- if its not there the H12Y modules seem to work pretty well in a lot of laptops.

Don't worry about the german site - its pretty obvious what to download even if you don't speak German.

If this model doesn't work try others -- you'll have to experiment but I haven't yet found a laptop that doesn't work with ONE of these drivers.

A bit of a pain but "Trial and Error" is your best bet here.

    cheers
