Nvidia 7900gt and 9600gt - not able to install drivers

Hello everyone out there, i have a major problem.

I just installed windows 7 and when i just my 9600GT, it goes into 16-color mode and 800x600 and i can't change this.
Windows 7 installs some drivers on its own, and these don't work for shit. I then downloaded the 196.29 driver from the nvidia homepage. And installed. This did not work either. Still in the same problem.

My 7900 cards works the best with the windows drivers, so that is what i am using.
in the device manager it looks like this: Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting .
I've tried stopping the automatic windows driver installer, and deleted the drivers installed the nvidia one. Doesn't work. it's like it doesn't register the installation... What do?

translation:" at the moment you're not using a monitor, which is connected to a NVIDIA GPU. And hell yeah it is!
    what do? please someone,

Problem that you are running into is that despite using a single driver file for both cards, it is essentially installing two different drivers. Two different drivers in that the 7900 can only use the WDDM 1.0 portion of the driver, and the 9600 uses the WDDM 1.1 driver. Remove the 7900 and the 9600 driver should install and work correctly.

Any particular reason for using the two cards, short of using more than 2 monitors?

I am not using 2 cards. I have 2 cards available and having trouble with both.
I WANT to use the 9600GT, but i have the 7900gt plugged in. Due to more trouble with the other card.

Yet none of them works anywhere near decent.

i have removed all drivers and installed NVIDIA ones. Doesn't work.
