crashes with my nvidia graphics card driver

So I was running Windows 7 fine for 3 weeks or so on that standard driver but the display was kinda fuzzy and I couldn't play dvd's so I finally installed my nvidia drivers. Shortly after I got all kinds of problems, freezing, crashing etc. Is there a solution to this or do I just need to live with the standard graphics card driver?

    computer: HP dv2819nr
graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M

Just to be clear :) is this the driver you downloaded? NVIDIA DRIVERS 179.48 BETA
(this is the Windows 7 32 bit version so if you have 64 bit, it will be a different driver)

You've probably found this already but here is some more info from HP Finding Software and Drivers After Changing the Operating System to Windows 7 HP Pavilion dv2819nr Entertainment Notebook PC - HP technical support (Turkey - English)

If it is, can you get the dump files and maybe repost your question in the Crashes and Debugging forum? There are a lot of experts in there who will analyze your dump files for you and they can go from there :)

Also, make sure you add your FULL system specs so we know what we are looking at.

Here is the link to how to post a dump file https://www.sevenforums.com/crash-loc...d-problem.html

While your problem is related to the graphics card (and you rightly posted in here), it may help you out if you are getting crashes to get the files analyzed.

I had posted in there but the dump files were of the hardware problem variety so they weren't able to offer much help. I had originally installed the wrong driver, for some reason HP didn't have the right graphics card associated with my computer. But then the second go around I got it off the forums from a stickied thread specifically for updating drivers on 7. Thanks for your help though.

Ok, it may be that there are remnants of other drivers (aforementioned incorrect driver for one) that are conflicting and causing problems. It might be worth uninstalling ALL drivers you see for your card and using to CCleaner to get the last remnants and then reinstalling the right one.

Also, have you tried sfc /scannow through CMD to see if there are any misplaced files. I am sure there is a solution to your problem, it's just a matter of getting to the crux of it.

Your card SHOULD work with the correct drivers in windows 7 so it may pay to keep trying for a solution.

It recently took a team of forum gurus, technical support and a really friendly member living close to me to help solve a graphics card issue I had. In the end it was a faulty card but the persistence paid off.

can you explain a couple of those methods so I can maybe attempt them tomorrow. The strangest thing is this last crash happened with the windows provided software, so maybe something was left lingering.

Ok, IMO, I would actually back everything up onto an external drive and do a clean install of Windows 7 and then only download the drivers that are neccessary. If you are not comfortable with doing that though, take a look at all the graphics drivers you might have on your system and uninstall them using the uninstall manager that comes with each one. You can also use programs and features in your control panel to uninstall but try to find the install/uninstall manager first.

*Take the following advice at your own risk and ensure you are comfortable with all instructions before proceeding*

    - Go to your start menu and type CMD in the search bar.
    - right click on the CMD icon that displays at the top and select run as administrator
    - type sfc /scannow and hit enter

    - also pays to use a registry cleaner such as CCleaner - Home to fix any registry files. Make sure you use their backup feature first incase anything goes awry.

At this stage with no other graphics drivers available, windows will revert back to the standard VGA driver. You then want to reinstall the nVidia driver listed above (the same one as the link you went to in the graphics card section of the forum)

If you do opt to do a clean install, I'll try and get a more experienced member in here to explain exactly what drivers you need for your computer - it is highly possible HP lists a bunch of things that are unnecessary.

Good luck and post back with further problems/questions.

sadly my external is at home and I'm at school or else I would have just said f it and done a clean install a while ago. I'll try your other suggestions after class, thanks.

oh and yeah, HP is nuts. Someone else in their forum told me how they have the wrong audio driver for my system, another thing I was having problems installing.

okay I ran that scan and it said windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations.
    c:\windows\system32>

Now my question is does the "system32" mean windows 32 bit as I was pretty positive I had installed 64 bit on my laptop. That could be a problem there as this is a 64 bit laptop.
