Sony VAIO VGN-FE890 and memory stick duo pro

    Hello All,

Sorry if this has been covered before (and I missed it).

I have a Sony VAIO VGN-FE890. Just finished installing Windows7 Ultimate 64 bit. Much faster than the Vista Home premium 32 bit I had! Anyway, everything seems to work except for the Memory Stick duo pro slot (which seems to show in the device manager has a mass storage device with no driver installed...but no information on it...I *think* it is Texas Instruments device. Anyway, anyone have a line on a 64 bit driver for this thing??

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi burright. Welcome to SevenForums.:)

Have a look at this link.

    Sony eSupport - VGN-FE890 - Software Updates & Drivers

Download the drivers, run the installation setup and follow the prompts as if you would any other time.

If you are presented with any errors due to compatibility, cancel the installation, right click the on the install package’s .exe and choose Troubleshoot Compatibility.

This will present you with a “Program Compatibility” wizard.

The wizard will show a few common issues to select from and ask which apply to your situation. It won’t allow you to proceed without selecting something, so if it’s not already checked, just check the box next to “The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won’t install or run now” and click next.

Choose Windows Vista as the last known OS to support the drivers.

Upon completion you ought to be met with a window displaying the new settings enabled for your software and the option to test your new configuration by clicking next.

That should sort your problem out.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I tried that, but unfortunately I get a dialog that says I need a 32 bit windows to install the driver. I have been trying to locate 64 bit drivers...

Thanks for the links. The first one (on left) unfortuntely doesn't get me very far. This is a US machine and the site requires a European VAIO model (or product code and serial nubmer) to gain access. I am not familiar enough with European VAIO models to pick one with the same hardware so that the drivers will work correctly.

The second one (ftp site link on right) does not seem to list the driver I need.

Unless I am missing something (always possible)...

Burright, the only other source I can locate is the Texas Instruments site:

texas instruments pci7411 integrated flashmedia controller driver (Sony Electronics) 7, Vista, XP, download

The drivers get a 53% "Yes" vote for compatibility with Windows 7, but no mention of whether it is 32 or 64 bit.

Glad you got it sorted out.:)

There is nothing quite as frustrating as having equipment that doesn't work 100% as you want it to.
