HP Pavilion 15 in 1 reader

I did a clean install on my new HP pavillion model a6632f, everything works other than I can't get the 15 in 1 reader to show up. There are no unknown devices in device manager.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,jb

Is your BIOS set to enable all of the USB devices?

ok, really odd, rebooted to check the bios (there was nothing in the bios about usb ports/devices) when I logged back into windows 7 all the drives showed up. I hadn't rebooted in a long time. I wonder if it had something to do with the computer going in and out of sleep for so long....Any way. Thanks,jb

That would probably be it - in Windows 7 there is the ability to disable unused USB ports - if that is enabled, then that is exactly what will happen.

When I built my system, the only thing I kept from my old Pavilion was the 15-1 reader. In my experience, Win 7 hides those drives until you insert something into one, which is awesome, cause I always hated having those empty drives showing in Computer

Not here - well, it does and it doesn't....

Notice that in my computer (and this was opened with the default Win + E KB shortcut) you see all drives, but in the tree folder to the left you only see populated drives....

Huh, well, after looking at things, there is an option in Folder Options that says (on 7068 x64):

Hide Empty Drives In Computer Folder

Here is how my comp looks with it checked:

    With it unchecked:

And with a SD memory card inserted with the option checked:

johngalt, apparently your comp has it unchecked, or your mobo reads it differently than mine does.

Nah,. it is unchecked - but stranger, is that it still blocked from the folder tree regardless of the setting....

Ahh, figured that out too - I don't have the setting to show all folders checked in the folder options either....

I actually like it this way - in my computer I see my hardware - in the folder tree I see populated drives.

+1 for M$ for those configuration options....
