Hi all,
I have the same problem,
Bought my Laptop (acer aspire 5740G) yesterday and wanted to loose all the demo programms.
So i installed Windows 7 ultimate x64 instead of Home.
My Display driver is now also set on standard VGA and i cant get it to the ati radeon HD 5470.
downloaded several drivers from the ati.com site but nothing works.
Hope you can help Us.. thanx for the good work.

Hey, Trpla! You're sure you have 5740 not the 7540? Cuz, if so, then maybe the problem is only with this exact model? Btw, glad I'm not the only one with this problem (no offense)...

In the device manager, try right clicking and select the update driver online. This might help fix the problem. I say this as I had a problem with my audio card and this did fix my problems. It might help.

I've been to your acer site and it supports Windows 7 as you noted, so somehow things have got out of order
1 try restoring the system to when it was last working properly using system restore
2 download driver sweeper and run it in safe mode then try installing the driver from the ACER website
3 reinstall Windows 7 if you run out of options, and start using backup in control panel, so your safe.

Note ATI 10.1 is a bit of mess up with installation and maybe windows update installed a more recent vga driver (maybe not even 10.1) that has caused the problem - to remedy this happening again do this - type "change device installation settings" in search and select "never install driver software from windows update".

Driver sweeper - Guru3D - Driver Sweeper (Setup) download from Guru3D.com

Open Start, type devmgmt.msc and press enter. Expose the device you're having issues with and double click it. Choose the Details tab and then the Hardware Ids from the drop-down. Please post that data here.
