Annoying Driver Issue

Hello,

I've got a really annoying driver issue, I have the correct driver installed in my driver directory but the device the driver is for keeps using a M$ Generic driver, I've tried updating the driver but it just says the best driver is already being used.

So does any one know how to manually replace what driver is used by a device?

Cheers.

Hi and Welcom.
So what you are saying is Windows 7 is wrong and you have a better driver.
Can you tell us what driver it is and for what hardware device?
Then we can check and see.

Cheers for the replies,

Fabe I had already tried that and just tried again and still get "The folder you have specified doesn't contain a driver for your device. if this folder does contain a driver make sure it's 32bit" and it is 32bit and the correct driver.

Iggy, yeah I have the driver I need to make my device work correctly, it's for a composite video capture device, but windows just uses a generic USB driver.

Thanks

I just tried that Fabe and got the same result.
Tews I can't uninstall the driver because it's a Microsoft Generic one, it will only uninstall the device, upon reconnecting the device it will use the generic driver again

Hi, try this,

Stop Auto install of Drivers. Open the Control Panel, type "a" into the Search, top right. Click on Devices and Printers.Right click on the icon for PC Click on Device Installation Settings.Click on, No let me choose what to do.

Click on Never install driver software from Windows Update. Go to the Device Manager, find your Device, right click on it and select Uninstall, and click the box that says Delete this Driver, Select OK, close all windows and Shut Down, Then start your machine up again. Install the Driver that you have.

Hello Jfar cheers for your reply, again I have already tried this but, and remember the driver can not be uninstalled because it's a Microsoft generic one, so there is no option to remove the driver when uninstalling the device.
