    Windows 7 Widescreen resolution problem.

    Hello forums.

I just installed Windows 7 Enterprise 64-Bit on my 'Lenovo - Thinkcentre 817258G'.

My problem is that my widescreen monitor (Samsung - SynchMaster 2343NW) has an optimal resolution of 2048x1152, but Windows only lets me choose 1600x1200.

I ran the windows updater as soon as the installation was completed so my graphics card is now listed as 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter'.

I have installed the latest drivers to my monitor from Samsung's webpage.

Where can I find drivers for my integrated graphics card?

I ran a DXdiag if it's any help.

    Thanks in advance.
    AMalm

[Edit] This is my Graphics card harware ID:

    Hey TEWS.
I tried looking through Lenovos support/download page, but I was unable to find any drivers to Windows 7 or even Windows Vista.

If you can find the xp drivers, install them in XP compatibility mode...

When installing the XP drivers in XP SP3 comp. mode i recieve an error saying that "One or more of the required files for installation is either missing or currupt."
    The installation then terminates.

In that case, you may have to do with what you have.... sorry

Is there no workaround to Windows 7's standard resolutions?
Or perhaps a way to force them.

Yes. Please see my tutorial at Force DVI/HDMI resolutions and refresh rates

This was posted somewhere else and worked for me with my three monitor setup. I have two monitors connected via DVI and an identical one connected via the VGA port. The VGA monitor never seemed to get its native resolution in Windows 7 so I performed the following steps.

Download and unzip the attached file.

Edit the INF file with notepad according to your appropriate monitor name/resolution where you see such settings.

    1. Go to your MONITOR (not DISPLAY -- probably showing as generic) in Device Manager.

    2. Update the driver.

    3. Select to browse for the driver file.

    4. Browse to where your edited .inf file is saved.

    5. Select & Install it.

    6. Reboot.

It should now show correctly, or at least allow you to reset the resolution to the appropriate resolution.

The attached .inf file is set for my LG monitor but you can change all of this when you edit.

I see this as a quicker, more standard way of correcting this issue without having to dig around in the registry.

Hey. I tried this but with no result.
I think that the problem is not the monitor driver, but Windows 7 simply not bothering to support the integrated graphics card.
