i just registered on this forum to post this help for all people that have problem with syncing pads (blinking but not syncing):

i did everything as on 1 page on this forum :

    Right click on Computer
    Go to Properties
    Click on Device Manager
Right click on the Unidentified Device
    Go to Properties
    Go to the Drive tab
    Click on Update Driver…
Browse my computer for driver software
Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
Windows Common Controller for Window Class
Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009]
    Update Driver Warning
    Click Yes

except i changed the driver to the older one (2007) and then after reboot pads synced and everything is fine, the first sync takes a little longer, just wait, hope this helps

    Hi again,

I can find the Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009] driver, but when I try to install it it comes up with a compatibility issue.

    Do I just ignore this?

Ok, tried the 2009 version and the older 2006 version of the driver and neither connects with controller. In fact the laptop locks up sometimes. So for now I have removed the software.

    Success!!

I installed the 'xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows'.
    Shut down and then restarted.
Plugged I the wireless receiver, which got detected, then rebooted.
Turned on the xbox controller and waited for it to install.
    Rebooted again.

    All ok.

    Correct solution!

I HAVE FOUND THE CORRECT AND MOST SIMPLE SOLUTION!
    1. download this: http://writersgallery.com/XBOX360/Fa...%20Drivers.zip
    2. Extract ALL THE FILES to one folder on your desktop
    3. plug in your receiver into your computer
    4. open device manager
    5. the receiver should be listed as an unknown device... (it wont say receiver or anything and only say unknown device. if there are multiple unknown devices, unplug all other usb devices and such from your computer so that you only have one unknown device listed which will be your receiver)
    6. Right-click the unknown device (receiver) and click on update driver software
    7. Click 'browse my computer for driver software' which will be the second option
    8. click browse and navigate to the folder which contains extracted files
    9. make sure that "include subfolders" is CHECKED
    10. click next
    11. done!

Actually, I beleive THIS to be the definitive solution

Never mind that 11 step nonsense (think that guy is half way thru learning the 12 steps....) .... anyway....
This is by far the easiest and most reliable method:
visit Software Downloads: Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows

Select your OS and Language from the drop-down menus, click the download and let it run
you'll have finished the download/install by the time you read this
