Did you first install the drivers for Windows 7 x64 bit

You will find them in this post

Then follow the instructions to update the 'Microsoft Common controller for Windows Class'

Im having the same problem with the receiver not connecting to the controller but when i try the fix Walker said on the first page i cant see Windows Common Controller for Window Class in the menu that comes up. I still have a small disk that came with the receiver but it seems like it does nothing. My specs are: Intel Core 2 CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz, 2.0GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT. Please help i have tryed for 2 days now and plugged it into the front, the back, removed all wireless devices around me from the room, and just go the receiver about 3 days ago. Please help

    Solution

I struggled with this for a while - then found a solution:

    I've got Win 7 x64 and a Chinese knock-off wireless receiver.

Get ready by downloading and installing the xbox drivers from Microsoft (as mentioned earlier) but also use WinRar to extract the contents of Xbox360_64Eng.exe

Then follow the instructions written previously...
    • Browse My Computer for driver software
    • Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
    • Show All Devices
    • Have Disk...
    • Point the installer to Xbox360_64Eng\xbox360\setup64\files\driver\win7
You should see Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows (and a couple of others!) WOOT

That seems to do the trick!

(Oh - and don't forget to press both sync buttons on the controller and receiver...!)

Ok you say you have followed all the steps, but we don't know what steps they are.

You did install the 32 bit drivers for windows 7 posted here
Software Downloads: Xbox 360 Controller for Windows

After installing that, then follow steps for 'Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class'

Then turn on the Xbox 360 Controller and see if its detected.

If you have a USB plug and Play charger set , check here

[Guide] Xbox 360 Gaming Receiver Windows 7 Connection/Driver Problems

Support for controller to connect - except its a pc not a console

Connect a wireless or wired Xbox 360 controller - Xbox.com

I did that. I've downloaded and installed 'xbox 360 Accessories Software 1.2 64-bit for Windows 7' but still, my controller dosn't connect. and all the list of drivers is empty accept for 'XBOX 360 controller for windows' and that one dosn't work.

I'm not sure where i've gone wrong.
Ok did you follow the steps again after installing the Xbox 360 Accessories Softwrare

    Right click on Computer
    Go to Properties
    Click on Device Manager
Right click on the Unidentified Device ( or if no Unidentified, then the xbox device)
    Go to Properties
    Go to the Drive tab
    Click on Update Driver…
Browse my computer for driver software
Let me pick from a list of devices on my computer
Windows Common Controller for Window Class
    Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for: 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009]
    Update Driver Warning
    Click Yes

That is strange that you don't see it now.

Hey, guys! I´m just new at this forum and maybe I´m a little bit too late, but I hope you can help me although...I had some problems with my receiver, then I ordered a new one and did this steps and it worked without any problem, but before 2 or 3 days I put the receiver out of my usb-hub and today I wanted to play again, but now my computer says to me:
The tool is not possible to start (code10)
    what can I do??

I don't recommend to connect your XBOX 360 Receiver into a USB Hub, always connect it to one of the usb ports on the motherboard I/O

    Cheers
