Ok I am not sure what is going on there. Maybe try another USB port, or try reinstalling again.

Also for some check out post #65 for more tips, or here

[Guide] Xbox 360 Gaming Receiver Windows 7 Connection/Driver Problems
I've tried multiple usb ports and I've done a full uninstall/reinstall of the drivers probably more than a dozen times by now. I even took the steps in post #65 a bit further, editing the xusb21.inf file in the win7 driver to add the proper VENDOR_ID for the black knockoff receiver.

The existing ID in this file is for the MS official hardware (0719), and since the knockoff has a different ID (0291) Windows reads the driver as being incompatible with the device, which is why Windows fails to install the driver automatically when you plug it in. Editing the xusb21.inf file fixes this issue, but as the drivers don't seem to actually function with the receiver it's a bit of a pointless fix IMO.

Can anyone who has the knockoff Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver working on Windows 7 64-bit (the knockoff does NOT have any MS branding on it, and has a sticker reading 'XBHD' on the back) post a usb log file for me to take a look at? I'd generate the usb log file myself, but since the driver doesn't work for my device I get no output - an empty file.

Using any freeware USB Sniffer software (i.e. SnoopyPro) a user can see the data exchanged between a USB device and the driver software, and export that data as a usb log file.

Using this data, one can reverse engineer the existing driver and write their own customized driver for the device. Since that's really the only viable option I see available to myself at this point, I figure I may as well give it a shot.

I own both the white original reciever as well as the new black combo and neither required a driver disc.
Windows saw the hardware and installed the required drivers automatically.
This is the black one I ordered,

Yep I know. I think a lot of peoples issue these days is the clones of either controller, or both controller and reciever.

After connecting my controller to my 360, it seems that I'm unable to get it to reconnect to the wireless receiver. Unlike before, when syncing the ring on the controller will rotate while trying to sync, then flash on and off periodically when it fails.

This makes me think it was never actually connecting to the wireless receiver in the first place, which is a different issue from the one I had posted earlier. I've tried various solutions posted around the forums for getting the controller to sync, but none of them seem to work so if anyone has any suggestions I'd be happy to hear them.

FYI, I'm using offifcial Microsoft-branded Xbox 360 controllers that came with the console. Only the receiver is a knockoff.

Firstly - thanks to those who posted already but I'm at a bit of a dead end.

I have followed the previous steps and successfully installed the Microsoft Common Class Controller Driver as advised and the device appears in Device Manager BUT it just will not sync no matter what I do. I'm at a loss here, any suggestions? Do I need to do something with the disc that came with receiver? FYI the controller is 100% fine, with working batteries but the receiver is a knockoff.

    Many thanks in advance :)

Thanks for the reply but I have done both of those steps repeatedly to no avail.

I am left with a solid green light on the receiver but a continuously flashing one on the Xbox controller and yes, I have pressed the sync buttons

    Any other ideas?

How did that go ? any progress ? I have a white receiver with a "XBHD" sticker so assuming that'll be why no fixes seem to work under devices (xbox 360 wireless receiver for windows) I have both "xusb21.sys" and "WdfCoInstaller01009.dll" drivers. The receiver light flashes when the button is pressed and there's definitely nothing wrong with controller (used 2 different ones and both work fine on xbox).

Any ideas ? Lost several nights already trying to get this damn thing to work *sigh*

Hi, I had the same issue with a "XBHD" Wireless Receiver.
Found the answer on a few websites:

Step 1: download Software Downloads: Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows

    Step 2:
    Right click on Computer
    Go to Properties
    Click on Device Manager
Right click on the Unidentified Device
    Go to Properties
    Go to the Drive tab
    Click on Update Driver…
Browse my computer for driver software
Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
    Gaming
Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1349
OR the new driver just installed Xbox 360 Wireless Device
    Update Driver Warning
    Click Yes

    Then sync as normal :)

Hope this helps you as it helped me!

It recognises it fine, it just won't sync, I can only assume it's broken. Don't wanna go through this again though so I'm just gonna buy a wired one; thanks microsoft

Hi Squaffle. Sorry to hear you are having problems with your XBox controller.

I have a knockoff XBox receiver and I easily got it to work following the instructions in this thread. Especially,

Maybe you might need to first download and install the appropriate (original) driver from M$'s website. Then follow WalkerA's instructions.

Just trying to return the help I got from this site.
