Xbox 360 PC wireless gaming Receiver

My OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
    Problem:
When I plug in the xbox 360 wireless receiver the drivers will not load. The light on the device turns on and windows recognizes it as an Unkown USB device.

    • I have tried loading the drivers straight from M$ and have tried manually installing them. I get an error stating that windows found the driver but could not install it.
    • I have also installed the device onto an xp machine and it works perfectly
    • the package itself does state that it is windows 7 compatable as does the manufacture's website
    • I have also seen screen shots of the device working, on a windows 7 ultimate 32bit os but not a 64 bit.
At this point I'm thinking it might be because im running 64 and not 32bit...and if thats the case would be better to dual boot with a 32 bit system or ubuntu???

any help of guidance will be greatly appreciated!!

    Thank You,
    Mossflower

    Hi mossflower,

Try the instructions I found here: Wireless Xbox 360 Controller Receiver For Windows Not Detecting/Working

    http://www.dealextreme.com/forums/Forums.dx/Forum.31881~threadid.504450

    Right click on Computer
    Go to Properties
    Click on Device Manager
Right click on the Unidentified Device
    Go to Properties
    Go to the Drive tab
    Click on Update Driver…
Browse my computer for driver software
Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
Windows Common Controller for Window Class
Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009]
    Update Driver Warning
    Click Yes
Let me know if that helps at all. Good luck!

    Cheers,

You could try uninstalling any form of drivers it installed for it, in the device manager, then restart, plug it in, and check windows update. I know when you plug a wired Xbox 360 controller into a Vista machine it requires you to install updates from Windows Update before you can use it.

    Hi asbanoglou,

Sorry I missed your post before - what happens on that screen when you select "Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009]" and click Next to proceed setting up the controller?

    Cheers,

i tried all of that and what happens is that it will connect when its up close but it takes quite a few times to even connect to it, and when it does if i move the controller 2 feet away, the controller disconnects. i have no idea what to do to fix this
