Xbox 360 PC wireless gaming Receiver  

My OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Problem:
When I plug in the xbox 360 wireless receiver the drivers will not load. The light on the device turns on and windows recognizes it as an Unkown USB device.

• I have tried loading the drivers straight from M$ and have tried manually installing them. I get an error stating that windows found the driver but could not install it.
• I have also installed the device onto an xp machine and it works perfectly
• the package itself does state that it is windows 7 compatable as does the manufacture's website
• I have also seen screen shots of the device working, on a windows 7 ultimate 32bit os but not a 64 bit.

At this point I'm thinking it might be because im running 64 and not 32bit...and if thats the case would be better to dual boot with a 32 bit system or ubuntu???

any help of guidance will be greatly appreciated!!

Hey walker thanks for the idea!! I will try that as soon as I get home, thats something I havne't tried yet!

and dark nova I tried that already...but I do greatly appretiate the advice. I really am at a loss here.

That worked perfectly!! who would have thought that m$ actually fixed that function of windows. I remember using that back in win 95 days and it never used to work! now it works perfectly!! I can't thank you enough!!!

Right click on Computer
Go to Properties
Click on Device Manager
Right click on the Unidentified Device
Go to Properties
Go to the Drive tab
Click on Update Driver…
Browse my computer for driver software
Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
Windows Common Controller for Window Class
Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009]
Update Driver Warning
Click Yes

Thank you very much Walker.:) This worked great for me. I was starting to wonder why I purchased the Xbox 360 Wireless controller.
Now I am happy.

i tried all of that and what happens is that it will connect when its up close but it takes quite a few times to even connect to it, and when it does if i move the controller 2 feet away, the controller disconnects. i have no idea what to do to fix this
