Has anyone gotten any of HP's Photosmart series printers to work on x86? I downloaded the Windows 7 client HP 7800 series driver for my 7850 from catalog.update.microsoft.com and tried to install by device manager. It said that it was incompatible. I tried to install anyway and no go.
I checked Windows Update and had the OS search specifically for a driver. They both found nothing.
Then I downloaded right from HP the Vista x86 driver. Tried to install normal, in compatibility mode for Vista, and also their SPs and still no go.
Anyone have this or similar successfully installed? I even read that MS tested my printer specifically for Windows 7, so I dunno. I mean, I even got my ancient ATI TV Wonder PCI goin here in 7 just recently haha. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

They are windows .cab files. Windows should open them, as they are just compressed files. You can use a common program like winzip. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dilithium Computers/Engineering (Myself) Star date 42.739285.5432.9 OS Win7 Ultimate x64 on Desktop / Win7 Ultimate x86 on laptop / Win7 x86 Starter on Netbook CPU AMD Phenom 965 X4 3.4Ghz cpu Black Edition Motherboard Gigabyte 790XT Memory 12 Gb DDR3 Graphics Card Nvidea Gforce GTX 470 Sound Card Onboard Realtek hi-fi Monitor(s) Displays Lg 3D led 23" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech wireless K350 Mouse Inferno gaming mouse PSU OCZ 700W GameXstream Case Artec 10000 Cooling On board + many case fans Hard Drives Loads maxstore sata 1 & 2/ loads of partitions + 1Tb Hitachi sata 2. 256Gb Crucial ssd. Yeah, I extracted to a folder and tried to install from that. It did what I said, unfortunately.
I just visited the MS site again and it seems when I type in Photosmart 7800, there are all sorts of drivers listed. I'll probably be able to sort it out. extracted all files but a windows error pop up.
used the following procedure: add a printer, add local printer, port usb001, clicked have disk button, select the location of extracted files, select only .inf file prnhp001.inf , selected the deskjet 3600 series, next, and the error appears. | My System Specs | | OS windows 7 ultimate x64 beta |

You don't need to extract the cab files just browse to where they are located.
Choose LPT1: (printer port) as indicated here
If the 3600 series do not work you can use the 3500 series | My System Specs | | |

If the 3600 series do not work you can use the 3500 series tried it also, but if don't extracted the files search in have disk doesn't found any .inf file.
used the lpt' port in procedure above, and also choose the 3500 series. same error occurs.
becoming real tricky this installation
will try to download the other 3 drivers from MS update
