SD Card Reader causes BSOD! Toshiba M15-S405

I've had this Toshiba for quite a while, and it has an SD card reader on the left side above the PCMCIA slots. Here are my observations:

With an SD card inserted prior to powering on the laptop, turn on the laptop. Windows boots, everything loads and the system can be used normally for any length of time. IF the SD card is ejected at any point the system goes BSOD, and reboots. At no point during the use leading up the ejection of the SD card can the contents of the card be read or modified - my laptop doesn't even appear to recognize the device.

This can be and has been reproduced with three different brands of SD cards which have also been proved to be working normally in other laptops. I have already removed and reinstalled the driver, installed a fresh copy of the driver from Toshiba's website, sacrificed an imaginary radish, formatted and reinstalled Windows (just for old times sake), even the almighty google has failed me. I now turn to you - please help me internet, please help me regain the use of my SD card reader that I have lost since I traded Windows XP for Windows 7!

I'm not sure what Readyboost is - I'm just trying to be able to access my SD cards from digital cameras, Wii, cell phone, etc on my laptop via the built in SD card reader.

Do I understand that the reader worked under XP? And those are the same SD cards - not SD-HC cards (which some older readers cannot read?

I have three different cards, 2 @ 2GB RiData cards that weren't tested in XP. 1 @ 128MB RiData card that WAS tested and DID work in XP. I know the 128 is not SDHC, the 2GB ones might be.

Hmm, that looks like a driver problem. Do you see a yellow mark in Device Manager.

Welcome to Seven Forums. Toshiba M15=S405 Model Content Page Card reader drivers for XP Dated 2/13/03/ You will have to use compatibility mode to install them. Simply download the driver>right click on the setup.exe file>properties>compatibility tab>drop down menu select XP>check the box run in compatibility mode And I always install non 7 drivers as administrator. Hopefully this will resolve your base system driver problem. Fabe

I removed the driver, rebooted, changed the compatability settings for the driver application to Windows XP SP2, everything seemed to load perfectly, I rebooted when prompted and inserted an SD card. I was not able to view the contents of the card though the laptop chimed when the card was inserted. Removing the card resulted in an immediate BSOD, and it created a .DMP file. If that's of any use in figuring out what's wrong I can post it...
