    Bios Settings !

    Hello guys !

I have a " little " question,AGAIN .I'm using a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L (rev. 2.0 ) motherboard, and a WD SATA II HDD.I was curious witch settings should i change in my bios because my HDD shows up while i'm booting as IDE Channel Master 0...I'll put a mark " * " beside the settings that i'm unsure off if i set properly,so you can guide me and give me a hand.

PS: Sorry if my "curiosity" its a bit long

    Integrated Peripherals

    SATA AHCI Mode [Disabled] *
SATA Port0-1 Native Mode [Disabled] *
    USB Controller [Enabled]
    USB 2.0 Controller [Enabled]
    USB Keyboard Support [Enabled]
    USB Mouse Support [Enabled]
    Legacy USB storage detect [Enabled]
Azalia Codec [Disabled] ß ( Onboard audio )
    Onboard H/W LAN [Disabled]
    x SMART LAN Press Enter
x Onboard LAN Boot ROM Disabled
    Onboard IDE Controller [Enabled] *
    Onboard SerialPort 1 [3F8/IRQ4] *
    Onboard ParallelPort [378/IRQ7] *
    ParallelPort Mode [SPP] *

And another quick curiosity from the Power Management Setup

ACPI Suspend Type [S3 (STR)] *
PME Event Wake Up [Enabled] *

Power On by Ring [Enabled] *

The reason i'm asking this is because i'm planning to update my OS on the secondary PC to win7 x64 ( At the moment using XP SP3 on it),and i want to have the corect settings done.

    Hello Suspekt.

Here's a tutorial about AHCI that may be interesting to have a look at, at the link below.

If your HDD is SATA, then IDE is an emulation mode, and you won't get top performance, theoretically. AHCI and native mode can be enabled before installing 7. Disable the serial and other ports - I doubt you use them and they will free up interrupts. The power settings are fine.

Thanks for the quick reply's !

Well, the main reason is that i want to see my HDD as SATA and not IDE.I don't need hot swap or NCQ (i think ) so can i disable the AHCI,but enable only the SATA Port0-1 Native Mode ? Will my HDD be seen SATA with only that option enabled?

Yup,i disabled the serial and parallel ports cause i don't use them ...thanks for the help Frostmourne ! ( Btw,the other settings from bios i managed to do them, these were the only " unsure " things that floated in my mind )

No, native mode IS AHCI, so to speak - at least for my motherboard - look in your manual to double check. So for IDE leave it disabled.
