WD Caviar Black 1TB Slow?

Hello!

I've just installed a new computer and I don't know if my Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB SATA Hard Drive ( WD1001FALS) is slow or not. Are there any drivers or updates for the disk?

Normal for a 1Tb Black.

Mine shows about the same.

Here's 2 500GB WD caviar blacks in RAID0, give you an idea running with that. Still a 5.9 W.E.I

You won't get higher than a 5.9 with a mechanical hard drive. Want to go higher, have to go with Solid State Drives -SSD's.

There is nothing wrong with the drive! I have the exact same drive.

How does RAID 0 optimize your speed with the drives? I'd love to get another one in the near future.

That looks spot on to me, I have a 1TB WD Caviar Black that I use for storage and this is how mine checked out.

When it writes data to the drive, it will write parts of files to both drives.

The main drawback to raid 0 is that when 1 drive fails, you will lose all of the data that is on both.

Drivers will rarely make disc I/O "faster". You're limited by mechanical delays and not "access strategy". More cache is better. Having Write Caching on helps.
