    Webcam drivers

I installed Windows 7 to a friend of mine, but her incorporated webcam doesn't work. I checked and her webcam drivers are not present, so they were probably lost during the installation. I tried looking for drivers on the net but no luck. Any suggestions?

    revol,
Have you had an opportunity to visit the website of the mfg of her computer to see if the webcam is Win7 compatible and if there are drivers for same?

She has a Sony Vaio notebook. I entered Sony's website, in the sofware and drivers' section, but they only had webcam softwares for her model, not drivers. Does this mean her webcam is unusable now with Windows 7?

Strange, I would think Windows would have a built in driver for that to at least get basic functionality. What does device manager show for it?

With the model # we can find a driver I'm sure it may not be a win 7 but compatibility mode should take care of it. Next time your around the system you could also use the hardware id method to find a driver. click on the device>properties>details tab>drop down menu>hardware id. Copy and Paste the hardware id string and it could help in finding a driver. Also need to know 32 or 64 bit OS. Thanks. Fabe

    Revol,
    On her machine, run MSINFO32.EXE

Under "System Summary" and under "Components" (especially Problem Devices") you will info about specifically which model Vaio and about the WebCam. Info about her laptop and the problem hardware will be helpful.

Does the Sony site indicate if the the utilities software is Windows 7 compatible? Does Sony offer a "chat" capability so that you can inquire by them about your webcam problem? I have a Toshiba and an Asus and both of them offer a "chat" capability which I've used before to get answers. You sometimes have to look for this support feature at a website.

Her Sony Vaio model is VGM-CR490, with Windows 7 32-bit OS. I've also seen in the device manager, but there wasn't any driver related to the webcam. I haven't checked anbout the "chat" service in the Sony website, I'll give it a look later.

Here's the support page - Sony eSupport - VGN-CR490, where you will find the software for 7, and this is the Vista page with the actual driver - Sony eSupport - VGN-CR490,
which may need to run in compatibility mode.

Will the Vista driver work on Win7 as well?
