Installation windows 7: cd/dvd driver missing

    Hey guys,

I've tried to install windows seven on a system I built for my little sister. The installation works fine until after the language and time zone configuration, where says that there is a CD/DVD drive driver missing and that I have to insert it on a floppy or USB...
The setup for the system is:
    Intel p4 3.2 Ghz
    Asus p4-p800-x
    2 Gb DDR Ram
    Some Ati graphic card.

    I'm installing windows 7 ultimate x32.

Anything you guys can come up with?:)

    Greetz,

Welcome to Seven Forums. You can actually use a 4 gb or larger USB drive to install windows Seven. Once installed check to make sure you optical drives are installed and working proper. Here is a tutorial on installing by USB stick USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create. Otherwise here is a very long thread on this issue with many suggestions you culd try. One question, do I have to get this .iso file from my Windows 7 installation disk? If so, where?:)

    Thanks for the quick reply!

I had a similar problem with my first intall of Windows 7. The DVD drive that you are using is defective. The DVD pressing seems to be more sensitive to tracking. I exchanged my DVD drive with another one and the problem went away.

Q? Does the install take quite some time to get to the point where it gives you the error.. And if you just re-try to install again, does it fail at a different spot. That was what I had.

For the $20, I got a new drive.

    Matt.

@mjm: Naa, that's not it, I used that drive before in different computer:) No, always at the same spot.
@theog: nope, didn't work, well actually, I wanted to do that, but it didn't read the files and coudn't find any other files to download on internet because the mobo is so old...

I solved it, just put another optical drive in there and it worked right away.

Eddy, while I was looking for a solution I found a good guide for installing it with a flash drive, here's the link:
