Windows 7: HP OfficeJet 6500 Windows 7 Software will not install!!

I purchased a new HP Officejet 6500 Wireless. The software disk will not install. I was able to load the drivers through the "Add a Printer" and can print in wireless mode. I tried to download the "software" for the scanner and fax on-line...it would not load either.

I contacted support and they said it may be a "installer" issue. Does that make sense? I tried to run the software again and got a "fatal error"

Any help would be appreciated.

Right click the installation file (usually an .exe file) and select Properties, then Compatibility Tab.
Check off Run As Administrator option at bottom to install.
Try that first.
If not, then follow the same procedure, but also run compatibility Vista (service pack 2) mode.

HP software is very buggy, I have a 4 year old model and it installed flawlessly, but folks having newer models are having troublesome installations... go figure.
