Where does windows store file while updating drivers

    Hi,

I use windows 7 ultimate, and in a process to update all drivers....some drivers I have directly downloaded from manufacture website..and few I am updating thru device manager.....by giving options..search automatically online..

Need to know what is location where windows store these drivers setup file... so that i can make a backup of those files also.

An early revert will be highly appreciated .
    Tks

Actually, they're stored in a temporary location prior to installation into the various system folders, after which the temp files are deleted. Generally it is best to downlad the drivers installer from the manufacturers website, which you have already done.

Question: Which devices are you attempting to update in this manner?

Sorry for the late reply, but I just got out of bed. Anyway, according to the PDFattachment you provided, here goes:

    "Display Adapters"
Go to the nVidia website and download the latest Windows 7 drivers from there.

    IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
You can go to your motherboard manufacturer website for the Intel ICH8M drivers, unless that device is an expansion card you've plugged in.

System Devices and Univerdal Serial Bus controlers
As with the IDE controller above, the motherboard drivers should provide these. Go to the motherboard manufacturer website.

A bit of friendly advice? Unless your computer is experiencing problems that can be rectified by installing new drivers, then there really is no need to update the drivers unless you require additional functionality. Display drivers are the exception to the rule, as updating graphics drivers often both improves performance and solves compatibility problems.

Basically, what I'm saying is that the only one who can say whether or not you absolutely need a driver update is yourself. If a device has a yellow exclamation mark bang in device manager, then you need a new driver. If it doesn't, then you do not.
