What driver is Windows 7 insatlling automatically?

I have a Logitech mouse. I don't use the Logitech drivers because I'm happy with the default functions and have no need for the advanced functions of the Logitech driver. The thing is whenever I plug in the USB reciever a message appears in the system area of the Task Bar saying that drivers are being installed. It does this again if I unplug the USB reciever and plug it in again. So what is being installed and why does it do it everytime I plug the reciever in? I would think once would be all thats needed. Thanks

It's probably a generic USB driver for the bluetooth function. If I understand bluetooth correctly, there is an auto negotiation setup to register the device being used (your mouse). If it were a wired mouse, plugging it in once would install the driver and that would be it, even if you removed it and plugged into the port again. As long as it's the same port. I swapped my keyboard and mouse USB ports once by mistake, and the drivers just reloaded and hooked themselves back up to the Logitech Setpoint drivers. I didn't have to reload the keyboard/mouse drivers again, but Windows installs a USB driver like a connector to the KB/mouse driver.

I hope that makes more sense than I think it does. :)

In other words if you don't want it to install drivers each and every time you connect, you need to install the logitech drivers.

    The mouse isn't bluetooth.

Each time it installs is it just over writing the previous install or adding another?

One area than XP beats Windows 7 than because this wasn't an issue with XP. I never installed the Logitech drivers and the mouse just worked without XP repeatedly installing drivers.

Two slots I use out of a possible six for the mouse.

Where can I see these drivers Device Manager?

Sorry but I was confused by this in your post:

...and I made the automatic assumption that by receiver, you meant you had a bluetooth mouse.

If you are plugging them into a different slot each time, then that is indeed normal.

However it shouldn't be the case if the exact same device is plugged into the exact same slot each time.

    They should either be under:

    Device Manager> Human Interface Devices
    or
Device Manger> Mice and other pointing devices

    (right-click on device for properties)
