Windows 7: Thinkpad T40 problems with Full screen Video

Thinkpad T40 problems with Full screen Video

Hi there,

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate on a Thinkpad T40. I've tried two different sets of drivers, the Generic PnP drivers that Windows provides, and also finding a none WDDM driver for my specific chipset. Both times, Full screen video just becomes a mess of vertical lines flashing all over my screen...

This is from any source, Windows Media Player, youtube, other online sources, etc.

Has anyone ever dealt with this before? Any help is appreciated!

Download Speccy to find out what Video Card you have, the Lenovo site says ATI Radeon, but download it to be sure. And then go to the website of the manufacturer to download the drivers.

Thank you for the help, but I've already tried the option of going to ATI's site to try and find drivers for this chipset.

The chipset is confirmed to be an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000. When I go to ATI's site to try and download drivers for Windows 7, it re-directs me to the Lenovo site to download drivers there...

Lenovo merely says that windows 7 should come with suitable drivers. The problem with the Generic PnP drivers from windows, is that the computer can't be used to run anything requiring DirectX (in any version.)

Windows 7 Professional, Windows XP Professional, Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook, Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop

I do recognize your problem, I had the same thing with a T40p (FireGL graphics) and a T40 (Radeon 7500). It has nothing to do with your drivers, the problem is in the hardware itself. I had the same problems with Windows XP and Ubuntu (Linux).
The longer you use the laptop and see the problem, the sooner the notebook will die completely. It starts with the lines that blurs your screen, then the screen freezes, and finally it will not even start without putting pressure on the graphics chip.
To check if you`re having the same problem, start a movie and press firmly at the right-upper corner of your NavPad. When the screen turns normal now, you are definitely having this problem.
