Win7 printing too many copies

My Win7 laptop is printing approx 50 copies of anything I attempt to print. It doesn't matter if it's my HP Photosmart printer at home or if I'm printing to the large Savin printer at the office. The printer dialog box is set to print 1 copy yet I get 50+. Is there some setting behind the scenes that would be causing this. I assumed this to be a print driver problem until I found it doing the same on different printers. Any direction would be welcomed.

I don't have a page setup button for either printer but on the Savin, I was able to do a restore default settings. Did a test print and it continues to print multiple copies. When I open the printer queue (what's printing dialog), it shows only one page is printing but the job doesn't delete itself so it continues printing.

Welcome to Seven Forums; I realize this is happening with different printers but if we could get the model # of your HP Photosmart, then we can check out the printer drivers and see if their might be a solution in their somewhere. It sounds as if the data is not being cleared from the spooling buffer after the number of copies has been reached. It will be interseting to see what is needed to fix this problem as it is one of the top 10 strangest problems I've seen yet. Fabe

At home I use an HP Photosmart C6180 and at work its a Savin C9020. I connect to both using the printers IP address. I use a wireless connection on both networks.

This morning I uninstalled the Savin C9020 downloaded the latest version and reinstalled and overwrote the existing drivers hoping that mighty do it. No luck.

On the Savin copier/printer, I can see it's print queue. In looking at that, each copy is being sent to the printer as a new print job. However from the Windows print queue, I only see the one job. When I look at the properties of the the print job from the Windows print queue it shows only one copy. It's almost as if Windows is unaware that the job printed successfully so it's resending it. It will continue to print until the printer runs out of paper and I manually delete the Windows job.

Just this side of fast enough.
Bi-Directional was enabled, so I disabled it. Still no luck. I even tried turning off the spooling. Printing just hung doing that. I'm going to place a support ticket in with Dell to see if they can give me any direction. Whatever it is that is controlling this must be buried pretty deep. I'll post the solution asumming we find one. :)

Dell is replacing my computer

There has been a number of odd issues with my new Dell laptop. Due to this they are building me a new computer. The odd thing is the last couple of times I've printed, its worked fine. The computer runs very hot and both times I've printed successfully the computer had just been started. I may try to print later today after it's warmed up to see if it has anything to do with the computer overheating. At this point it's hard to say what is going on with this computer.

I'm a fan of Dell products. This is the first time I've had any trouble with their equipment and they are replacing it without any fuss.

Thanks for all the attempts to help!

I have just installed Windows 7 and have the same problem with the same print job being printed over and over on a C 6180. I have an HP machine. The windows install was a full install and the latest driver and software was downloaded today. No luck, same problem. The display shows 1 print job, then 7/2 for copies/pages for instance. After the full job prints, the 7/2 continues bering displayed and the prints keep on coming.

You are printing over the network or over USB? The common thread appears to be network printing.

I am printing over a wireless network with the Windows 7 laptop. However, I do have 1 computer directly connected to the computer, 1 computer connected through the wired network and 1 other laptop that connects to the printer over the wireless network. All of the other computers run XP Pro and are working with this printer.

Try printing wired just once. That tells us where to look for a solution.

I tried printing from the windows 7 computer to the c6180 printer using the USB connection. The op sys installed the printer and printed fine. Then, based on HP's recommendation, I tried the drivers for the 9800 series printers in order to print wirelessly. I uninstalled all software and drivers for the 6100 series and when I added the printer I used the ip address and manually applied the drivers (HP 9800 series). This has solved the wireless printing problem. Additionally, all the others computers on my network still print to this printer. HP was very responsive and the tech folks were initially intrigued by the issue. The customer ops folks at HP were excellent.

Interesting to note that some printers can use upscale drivers. Hmmm... Looks like HP might be using the same wireless chips in the printers but only updating the drivers for newer ones. That should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. They have the code but fail to release it? I smell class action. It's one of the only things these corporate profiteers are afraid of!

Glad to hear my aim was true and helped. Wireless printing is interesting as it requires the equivalent of a firmware print server embedded in the printer. I liked the idea of the JetDirect cards since the hardware could be updated as technology advanced but that was in the day of $10K printers.

Windows 7 also printing too many copies on my Gateway notebook

Dear friends - did anyone ever come up with a solution to the "printing too many copies" problem - other than replacing the entire computer? I have a Gateway notebook computer (about 4 months old) that is doing the same thing that the Dell was doing. So, its certainly not a Dell specific problem. I sure would appreciate any additional updated information available. I have tried many of the same troubleshooting exercises suggested in this post... to no avail. Thanks in advance for any help.... and Happy New Year.

PS... I'm going to try to work with HP's tech support as well on this. I'll post my solution...optimistically assuming that I find one!

Windows7 WiFi infinite printing problem too

Hello,

Same problem here...

Printer C6180 wirelessly connecteed to home router/network
PC home-made (i7) wired to router, with Win7 x64, printing infinitely the same page (ie. until I run out of paper or ink, or until I kill the job)
I believe that I tried with a Sony Vaio running Win Vista x32 once and it showed same issue
Lenovo and home-made PC (Atom N330) both running Win XP x32 are ok

Note that cancelling the job on the printer won't do the trick - it need to be killed on the computer jobs queue...

Any one can get HP to fix the issue in next update ?

(I get so many automatic updates from them and they can't sort this one out :( )

Thanks

Cheers

El Layo.

Printing Too Many Copies

Ok, I thought this was a problem with my Lexmark 8300 Series multifunction printer. I print using USB, and sometimes, not always, it prints multiple copies. It wasn't until I installed the Dymo label printer, and it did the same thing, that I realized it is my laptop, not the printer. I have re-installed both printers, do not print wirelessly, and still have problems. Is there a system solution to this? Is this a Windows problem?
