just went to realtek site and got drivers but still no sound how do i test to make sure it is a driver problem and not a hardware one? (this a laptop i got off of a guy so i know nothing about it)
Does Device Manager show the device as properly installed? Does the Volume icon show a playback device? Are all the volume controls adjusted, esp the volume wheel/slider on the laptop?

seems as every things is as you have mentioned although when i hit the mute button the internal speakers make a little pop sound. i have also tried using head phone but to no avail. thank a lot for your help
also all it has under device manager is realtek high def audio device nothing else. is this ok as i have seen cases where there are 5 different things under the sound tab
