    Automatic Driver Installation

    Hi,

I am trying to stop a driver from installing automatically.

I have tried "Device Installation Settings" > Setting to never.

gpedit.msc is not an option in windows 7 home.

Does anyone know an alternative way to stop windows from automatically installing what it things is the best driver? I do not want it to ever install a driver for this device.

EDIT: Since GPEDIT isnt an option...

Control Panel > Windows Update > change settings > turn off automatic updates

I suggest selecting the option to only install important updates. This will skip drivers but keep your computer safe by installing security fixes. If you want to uninstall a driver simply go to:

control panel > system > device manager > Display Adapters

Right click the driver and choose uninstall. This can be done anytime.

I don't think gpedit is an option in Win 7 Home version.

I have tried both of those ways. This is just disabling windows update, and gpedit isnt an option.

Josh, that link isn't disabling Windows Updates; it is disabling driver updates through Windows Updates.

Well, the driver is still automatically installing when I do that. I have also tried pulling my internet cord as some websites have recommended. Do you have any other suggestions besides gpedit since home edition does not support it?

No, other than disconnecting from the internet. I set my system as per that link and I have not had any problem with Windows updating my drivers. I do have gpedit; but I did not use it to disable driver updates. Maybe someone else will come along with another idea, I'm sorry it did not work for you.

Well if GPEDIT isn't an option (Sorry) then you might be able to workaround it with this:

Control Panel > Windows Update > change settings > turn off automatic updates

I suggest selecting the option to only install important updates. This will skip drivers but keep your computer safe by installing security fixes. If you want to uninstall a driver simply go to:

control panel > system > device manager > Device in Question

Right click the driver and choose uninstall. This can be done anytime.
Not sure if that'll work but it might.

Thanks for stepping in. I am out of ideas.
